World War 2 with Tom Hanks on Sky History

Was gonna ask if it compared to TWAW. I suppose USA focused/exaggerated too...?

Iconic. Absolute spine-tingling broadcasting. But why does he pronounce Ukraine like he's from Walsall?!

I think he covered this in one of his receht books, if he mentions which one - can't remember myself - it was worth buying. Sorry to be vague but I always have a WWII book going so they can blur into one!
He did yeah, just speaking to my dad about it, and he'd read it.

I reckon this would be a solid 7.5/10 but then for weeks I’ve just thought ‘what’s the point. I’ll just watch world at war again’ for some guaranteed 11/10.

And thats how its gonna be judged the style is so similar but the content just isn't on a par.

Still always welcome another war documentary even if it is made by the yanks and their Cockeyed view on things

watched the first episode, its half decent... its more a compliment to everything that's gone before, its hardly ground breaking but the production quality enhances some of the previous footage like from the world at war. its kinda the world at war lite. my only beef is something common with modern production where you have to hook people in at the top of a show to stop them channel surfing so you get a summary of what's coming...

Is it that bad?
It's not terrible, it's just typical American dumbing down.

There was a lot of hype around it and the fact Hanks has done some great WW2 stuff, I was disappointed.

The World at War is head and shoulders above it and that's 50 years old.

I welcome any new ww2 documentary, is it as good as world at war, no, but it couldn’t be could it. Just a bit of a different take from their perspective by our ex friends across the pond

I'm sorry to see some of these comments.

I was going to start watching but did fear it would be rather disappointing.

Think I will give the first episode a go and form my own opinion.

Not holding on to too much hope.

the world at war cannot be beaten.
Especially when they had first hand testimony of people of all types who served, some involved in government, some high level officers, serving soldiers, sailors and airmen. Even civilians and not forgetting those held in Nazi concentration camps.

It was the complete history of it all.

which is what i did - its fine, it won't live long in the memory but its not bad. the improved footage, and production quality tells a story that complements the world at war - there's room for both imho.
