Starting March 4
10 teams in groups of 5
3 teams make it to super sixes
Top 2 from super sixes make it to the World Cup

Group 1: WI, Netherlands,Papua New Guinea, Ireland, UAE
Group 2: Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Hong Kong, Nepal

I have a sneaking suspicion WI and Zimbabwe stumble and don’t make it. Afghanistan and Ireland to qualify

Ridiculous that some teams are having to do this.

Cricket is just stupid, wanting to keep the game smaller.

Blatter was corrupt as they come, but under him Fifa did expand the game at every opportunity and look at it now.

Speak a lot of sense once again Rat - why the fuck the authorises wouldn't want to grow the game is beyond me. Completely nonsensical. I'd have all of those teams in the World Cup.

Maybe if WI don’t make it, it will be a wake up call to ICC that this ‘keep them out’ policy is stupid and they need to expand the World Cup. Still unbelievable to me that they chose to shrink the number (14) from last World Cup to 10 for the next one

Its not like the main teams don't play each other enough anyway is it.

They ain't fussed man, controlled by a few key countries, as long they are the story and have the lion's share of the money, all that matters

Ludicrous that at least 2 test playing nations won’t qualify! Fancy Afghanistan to get in

With the right encouragement Afghanistan could turn into a strong force, already got some quality players

Has anyone seen the crowds in Nepal? Ridiculous, should be encouraging them

This is all about India. The 10 teams who are in next year's World Cup play each other once, to maximise TV revenue regardless of how mind-numbingly dull it gets. What is wrong with 2 groups of 6?
I'd go with 4 groups of 4. Top 2 from each group go through to the second group stage (2 groups of 4) then semis and the final. Expands the tournament and also cuts the amount of games.

I don't agree with shrinking the comp but TBF the format is the same as '92 which was class.

ICC rationale is that they pile the extra teams into the T20 comp.

Which would be fine if they did. But they took away 4 from the 50-over format and added 2 to t20

One option is that we have a Preliminary round at the actual World Cup but matches wouldn't be well attended in general unless Scotland, Ireland and Holland played in their own countries. I'd advocate it though with 4 going through to join the top 8 in 2 groups of 6. Maybe play some other prelims in areas where they don't see FC cricket but the game is strong (no idea, Norfolk/Devon/Cambridge/Oxford?) We currently could have a World Cup without the West Indies which would be damaging for the game. That could be the legacy of all of this.

4 groups of 4

Top 2 from each group go straight to quarter finals

Expands the game to other countries
Doesn’t create a ridiculously long tournament that everyone gets bored of or where matches are meaningless

It’s not f***ing hard

That sensible suggestion wont make the bbci as much money as a long protracted tournament.

I've noticed that too. Dare I say the goose started having health issues when the power shifted to the bcci.

The goose had always had health issues, even before BCCI started becoming the farmer-in-chief. People like to hate on BCCI but they aren’t doing anything different than ECB and Aussie board used to do when the balance of power was their way. Back then, it was BCCI that pushed for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to be pulled into the fold. Now it’s the ACB helping out Papua New Guinea and the like while BCCI tries to close up shop.

I beg to differ mate. The Ecb and CricketAustrialia know how drain blood. BCCI seem like some newly turned vampires that are sucking the bone marrow out of the game.

Not saying the BCCI havent done good things in the past, but they have turned mate. Turned into a right money grabbing kernts. Back then when they were trying to garner support from the asian block, now they are back stabbing everyone. Until they sort out their differences with the PCB, they'll always have my contempt.

Indeed

Who owns the BCCI and ICC? Do they just want large revenue so they can justify large salaries?

I think you're right. This is an answer I found on the interent

"Nobody actually owns BCCI.

Although BCCI is a private body and a for-profit organization. till recently.

Some of the money BCCI makes is used to fund and develop cricket in India. Rest goes into BCCI's treasury.

Just a little bit might have been lost in the pockets of the top executives (All of them Indians and politicians)"

"The BCCI is an autonomous body
registered under Tamilnadu register of society Act 1975. As it is a private body, it does not fall under the ambit of Right to Information Act (RTI).
As Supreme court stated that “In the case of Zee Telefilms Ltd and Anr vs. Union of India and Ors in 2005 that the Supreme Court addressed and elaborately discussed the status of BCCI as an instrument of the State as per Article 12. The Supreme Court came to the conclusion that BCCI was not an instrument of the State.” Thus exempting the BCCI from RTI Act.
Recognition has not been granted by the government. However, given that the ICC recognises the BCCI as the apex national federation responsible for promotion of cricket in India, a team selected by BCCI is considered as the Indian team. The ministry only grants the BCCI permission to participate in international events and for holding international matches in India at no cost to the government. This is subject to clearances from the ministry of external affairs from a political angle and the ministry of home affairs from the security one."

I do hope it is appropriately audited
