Windows 11

I quite regularly I get start up messages that exhort me to update to Windows 11.

As I don't have any problems with Windows 10, I've been rejecting them, and going through the whole process again a few days later.

I use File Manager quite a lot to sort files, navigate, download stuff, transfer e-books, music files, films etc. I use Word, Excel, email and Whatsapp on the laptop. Plus I do the usual surfing, holiday bookings, banking etc. I probably use the iPhone and the iPad mostly for that stuff tbf coz the apps work better. I never use the laptop to peruse deep-fake porn videos of Nora Batty because the iPhone is much better for that

I have an SSD Laptop plus a portable hard-drive. I use the hard-drive for ALL my files (backed up on One-Drive, except for temporary downloads to the laptop. I have Microsoft Office 365

I provide all this information just in case it makes a difference.

So what are your thoughts on whether I should update to Windows 11. I'm not sure if it will enhance anything but what I'm worried about is that it wikll stop me from doing things the way I've always done them and I'll have to come up with a workaround. And I don't want to.

Plus, it is easy, to revert back to the previous version if I think it's shite?

Overthinking it. Just upgrade, it's solid enough (as solid as can be without it being MacOS that is ;) )

One thing that annoys me with W11 is that you can't make your own toolbars anymore.
I used to set the desktop as a toolbar and squeeze it into the corner for years to make a popup of the desktop icons, but they removed this in W11.

Also the way right click gives you a restricted list unless you click Show More is annoying for people who need more options than the casual user.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I’m still using windows 10 despite the hassling from Microsoft. I believe installing Win11 stops you from running other OS’s too but need to confirm if this is true.

there's a patch to get explorer , start menu, taskbar etc like windows 10/7

I've had no net on windows 11 problem twice. 1st time i fixed it (can't remember what i done 😂 ) 2nd time i went thru everything

and in the end I just formated the f*cker . i use win 11 for pirated games, dodgy adobe stuff etc and win 10 for legit stuff ;) dual boot

Depends on what you do. Taskbar is nowhere near as customisable.

I use multiple monitors, so I used to have the taskbar on the furthest left monitor, horizontally up the left hand side of the screen, leaving the rest of my desktops free. (strange I know but it works well on a multiple monitor setup). Windows 11 is set so you have your taskbar across the bottom of the desktop and you'll bloody well like it

I'm not sure if it does / not, the way i do it is install win 11(with rufus) on a nvme blank harddrive , create backup on that install , and restore that backup to pc and then use easybcd to add win 11

You might as well as it'll no longer be supported from next year.

Just copy your documents and photos etc to your other drive first

98 was a massive improvement over 95.

It wasn't better until the marvellous XP arrived.
I quite liked millennium addition but you're right XP was very good. I always tried to hang on to a good edition of windows because invariably the replacement was crap.

There’s a registry hack that will fix that. Having multiple items in the clipboard without having to resort to third party software is a plus point.

Just install it. Might take a bit of adjusting but there aren't any major differences and you may find some marginal improvements

First thing to do after installing is to go into the setting and move the start menu back to the left after MS inexplicably decided to move it to the centre of the screen.
