Jackie white's is the cross hair dead centre of Sunderland I reckonBut what's at the centre of the centre?
Nowt worse than a washy mag... Probs worse than real magsIt's just Washy Mags refusing to admit they're from Sunderland again.
If it read "South Shields is a town at the centre of South Tyneside metropolitan borough", would you still be confused?Sunderland is a city at the centre of the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough.
What does that mean?
I'm lukewarm about the shower of shite at the minute.Plenty of us MLFs in Newcastle as well mind
Dont start this shit, you will have everone in Ryhope and Silky up in arms about not coming from SunderlandEast Herrington was part of Sunderland town. After the board inn heading towards the hill it was non-townie according to my nanna.
Parochialism is great!Dont start this shit, you will have everone in Ryhope and Silky up in arms about not coming from Sunderland
My Mam’s mate used to say she was from a village just outside of Sunderland called Silksworth.Dont start this shit, you will have everone in Ryhope and Silky up in arms about not coming from Sunderland
Tidied
The metropolitan borough includes Washington and Houghton-Le-Spring presumably.
I agree with that. Cut it off at the back wall of The Stables.
Its not rocket science is it?The metropolitan borough of Sunderland ceased to exist in 1992 when the entire metropolitan borough was made the city of Sunderland. So anywhere that was in the borough of Sunderland pre 1992 is now in the city of Sunderland - look at the signs as you enter Sunderland - none of them say borough - they all say city
Just say you are gannin down the town, like everyone else does in Sunderland. Its not rocket science is it?
Whoever wrote the Wiki page should be shot with shit. Sunderland has continued to expand since the 1800s taking Monkwearmouth, then villages like Silky, Ryhope, Tunstall and South Hylton in the 60s. Washington, Hetton etc are just the latest expansion.
The confusion is the town of Sunderland and the city. It would be better if the name Bishopwearmouth was used and Sunderland being used for the city in its entirety.
