Wijnaldum

I see another poster is getting hounded just because he doesn't see things with red and white blinkers. No matter who we sign, no matter how shit they are, some posters will point blank refuse to say anything negative.

Just thought I'd point this out. First post, You say you won't listen to any rumours about SAFC because You don't believe them. Second post,You were complaning we weren't moving as quickly as we should and getting left behind on the basis of the Wijnaldum to the Mags rumour. You should really decide if you believe rumours or not.

Well spotted and I'm glad to see someone is paying attention. I am of the view that rumours are to be avoided. I accept that I perhaps elevated the Wijnaldum - Newcastle story above its true worth. I apologise.

very very Jardinesque
No matter who we sign, no matter how good they are some posters will point blank refuse to say anything positive
Do you see the irony in your statement?

OK, for the sake of accuracy, I said that Matthews is a right-back (which he is) not a left back (as you suggest) and he plays for a relatively small nation for whom football is not even the principal sport, thus reducing the competition for places in the national squad, one would have thought. You say he has occasionally excelled in Champions League games. Which ones, because I didn't notice this excellence.

Byram is two years younger and is English, with significantly greater competition for places in the national team and squad.

The key differentiation is not price but the level of talent each has. My point was that I think that Byram would have provided better performances on the pitch, thus justifying the greater expense. Whereas Matthews is likely to be gone and forgotten in a couple of years.

Irrelevant if only one was prepared to sign.

@Clueless I wouldn't waste your time with this rabble. If you don't view everything through your red and white blinkers and think that everything at the club is wonderful and rosey, then you are either a:

A: Mag kernt
B: Pessimist
C: Negative bellend

Too many people have been burying their heads in the sand for too long now. It's been that long that some have even come to accept mediocrity.

I'll keep my ambition thanks.

Maybe when the club start to show a tiny bit of ambition then people can praise the club, same old posters this week trying to big up the likes of Coates, Matthews, Hoilett, Matt Phillips etc, f***ing hell man. None of these players would improve us, not one iota.

You're the complete opposite. You find a negative in everything. Worst of the worst.

Thanks for that. I don't really care about the challenges, of course. People have the right to be wrong and it is nice that they feel able to exercise their rights in this way.

f***ing hell. If he gave a clear point of view it would help. He's done nowt but waffle nonsense

But very relevant if the club's transfer policy is once again 'It doesn't matter if he's not as good, he's the cheapest' and we did not actively pursue the better option (Byram) because we were put off by the reported fee. I don't recall having seen any reports that Byram was not prepared to sign.

Please let me know how many times you've seen Byram play and Matthews play. Also can you tell me exactly what makes Byram better ability wise.

I've seen Byram play 82 times and Matthews 56 times, but I did miss the start of one game (leaves on the satellite dish and Mrs Clueless was reluctant to go up the ladder in the snow to clear them away). Did you know that 83% of all statistics are made up on the spot ?

I'll tell you why I think Byram is the better player, once you've explained the criteria for accepting evidence of high quality players being signed.

You wanted to see evidence we're after high quality players. I asked what evidence you wanted. You said you wanted to see them signed. Do I take it from that, that you will only believe we tried for these top quality players if they sign?

Whilst demanding high quality you're championing a right back from a lower division with less top class experience than the one we've signed. You're very contradict.
