Why does the club give out false attendance figures?

How do you know they do?

I think this is taken as a given, when people under estimate how many people are actually there.

You could be right, but I'm not saying it's a given like in true SMB style seems to have become a fact.

This. Some season card holders miss games and are counted other than that I think 2o-24k empty seats seems about right.

All clubs have to publish Tickets Sold figures by Premier League/EFL rules.

Since every ticket sold is subject to VAT this makes it harder for clubs to fiddle their gate receipts to the taxman.

SAFC will know the true physical attendance figure since they use electronic turnstiles but choose to keep it a secret.

Many other clubs do likewise.

They don’t, they correctly give the attendance based on the number of tickets sold.

Anything different and the league and HMRC would be on our case.

Maybe they should change the announcement that they during the second half from, "today's attendance is ...", to "tickets sold today is ..."
The announcement is misleading imo

Is it a rule though? Most clubs give the actual away attendance or number of visitors. We have had sellouts but the actual numbers excludes tickets not scanned.

Does this rule only apply to home games does anyone know?
