Why are blackberries bought from a shop always tasteless?

They taste a lot better picked and eaten straight of the bush.
You've answered your own question 🤷‍♂️
Shows how pampered / lazy we have become that a domestic berry that can be picked for free (admittedly not all year) largely gets ignored and folk pay £12 a kilo in Sainsbury’s which is more expensive than meat!
The mind boggles.
As soon as they are picked, the sugar begins to turn into starch, therefore lessening the sweetness. Same with corn on the cob. Fresh stuff in supermarkets is rank cos it's days old, but fresh from the plant it is amazing.
I don't understand how some folk don't understand this. It's as if straight off nature being best is radical 🤷‍♂️

My local Morrisons has loads of cherry trees all around the car park and in a couple of weeks time they'll be covered in loverly ripe cherries yet people still go into the supermarket and buy punnets of tasteless cherries ignoring the tastier free ones hanging in front of their faces outside.
