Whisky

Had a few decent enough Lochlea but their pricing on the previous 5 yr old and now the 7 yr old I simply don't get.

Call it "our oldest" or "limited edition" but £90 for a 7 yr old malt is bonkers.

Not tempted with earlier age bottle nor this

I have just had a nip as it has been a while but Tbh I don't taste it. I remember reading somewhere a few years ago about coal tar and I sort of get why but to me it is unique. Maybe some of the more familiar notes are Iodine, but less intense and medicinal as say a Laphroaig. there is some warm spice, maybe cinnamon and/or pepper. Also, it is not at all peaty or smokey but it does have a very pleasant intense lingering heat, which leaves something resembling burnt wood. All in all I forgot how good it is.
My wife likens Laphroaig to Famel cough syrup! 🥃🤨

I’m very much a whisky amateur but we try and collect a bottle of whatever the local drink is wherever we go in the world.

We’re just headed home from a weekend in Edinburgh and picked this up. No idea if it’s any good😂😂

Mortlach can be great , the core range a bit less so sadly.

I’ve honestly no idea about it😂 was in the price range of what I wanted to spend and I liked the box. As I say we don’t open them, just keep them as a memento of the places we’ve been.

They did have a 16 year old one in a very similar box but that was owa steep.

There are a few very good whisky shops in Edinburgh but lots of over priced tourist traps.

More and more better whisky these days don’t even come bath boxes or tubes.

Suppose if you’re not opening it that matters, each to their own of course.

Do you always paint your finger nails that colour?

No, I go for something brighter in the summer.
I was just reading about this distillery, it was founded by the Cowie family in 1823! I’ll have to get some..not the nail varnish although after drinking the bottle of whisky I might want to try that too.

Aye, I’d struggle to justify its price point. I don’t see what it offers over and above the 18yo.
The wife bought me it for my 50th as a treat, it was around the £250 mark from loch fyne just before it won best whisky at the whisky awards and it shot upto £500 which was crazy.
