Whisky

Genuine question but do you actually get drunk or is it just a taste then move on?

Well the first three tours include a selection of malts, many straight from the cask ( and at appropriate abv %)
So while I’m not planning to get pissed, far from it as I want to be able to enjoy/sample what’s on offer, I’m expecting to have that happy buzz

Sure we will be hitting the few bars in Port Ellen and having a few beers as well

Sounds tremendous, enjoy it mate.

😂😂

I used the cheap bottle to experiment

Neat - superb
Soda - awful
Ginger beer - spicy. Not great
Water - seemed pointless no different
Diet coke - lovely

If it is no different with water then surely it makes sense to mix with water as you will get a bigger drink 😉

I normally drink mine half whisky half water. No problem with drinking cheaper whisky with any mixer you fancy but anyone who mixes a decent single malt with Diet Coke is a wrong’un 😊

Mixed with diet coke as I do not do slow drinking and we're watching a film. Had 5 neat since getting home from match. Superb drink

We finished off the 12 year Balvenie doublewood last night and it is now one of my favourites.

So have people got a massive collection or just a couple to keep you going? Being researching and by christ there are shit loads out there. Going to cost me a fortune this.
I found the Islay ones lose their smokiness when open too long, don't think the air is good for keeping its flavour, so I generally only have 1 or 2 bottles on the go at a time. Depends how quick you're going through then I suppose.

We did a 25 year bottle of Highland Park on Christmas Day and it was bloody lovely.

Had a couple of glasses Yamazaki (Sainsburys has it) NYE and that was probably even better.

Yamazaki is a great drink, i read somewhere that japanese whisky was getting expensive and harder to get due to increasing demand

The Yamazaki distillery is a great place to visit too. Very decent tour and there are some cracking malts to try. The water is incredible and supposedly supplies international space station.
The next step is to order it at a bar rather than lager. In glasgow in March for a weekend and that might be the perfect time.

it’s worth checking out Artisan restaurant at Wishaw just outside of Glasgow too. A 3 course meal and 3 drams for £25, has the largest Bruichladdich collection in the world and something like 5000+ bottles, over 2000 open.

That looks even better, hadn't heard of that one. I only know the Pot Still because it's near the station.

To be fair it's the on'e Roy and Ralphy always go on about...id never heard of it either 😁

Be great to have something like that nearby
