Why? Value wiseNewcastle by a fair distance.
Genuinely no and the reason being a number of things that they dont have and we do, mega history, massive support, massive ground and cheap as chips. None of them are sleeping giants or even big clubs, for me the attraction of buying a club would be turning a sleeping giant into one having a rave coked up to its eyeballs....In that respect the ones that would interest me would probs be (in no particular order)
Sunderland
Scum
Leeds
Sheff Wed
Villa
Only so I could make myself less popular than Mike Ashley with my wheeling and dealing.Newcastle without a doubt. They are in the PL already, have 50k+ crowds and there's a huge TV deal on the horizon. It's hurts to admit it but its true.
Well you mention Villa there and they spent over £60m last season in the championship and finished mid table. Not sure what they've spent this season, but if they go up and sign more players thats likely to be over £100m spent on playing staff before a ball is kicked in the top flight.
Sunderland are worse than Villa and are likely to be in League One next season, so with the purchase price of the club, the debt, then what its going to take to buy players for two promotions then to get established in the top flight i think you're looking at close to £300m.
Assuming promotions happen consecutively, that would be the 20/21 season when beginning premier league football. By then clubs will have had 17/18 and 18/19 on this current tv deal, and then 19/20 on the next tv deal.
In that time there will have been 6 relegated clubs from the premier league in strong financial positions looking to regain top flight status plus the usual suspects around the play off places at the top of the championship so promotion is no guarantee.
For the same price you can buy a current premier league club.
Income is currently probably £80m a year higher. They have bigger crowds, bigger commercial sales, bigger reputation nationwide and worldwide. They have far more saleable assets. They have a recent history of posting profits in the premier league. Why? Value wise
How old are you mate may I ask? Do you remember Sunderland before Peter Reid? Not being in the prem by definition is a team being utter shite![]()
They were/are making a profit?Income is currently probably £80m a year higher. They have bigger crowds, bigger commercial sales, bigger reputation nationwide and worldwide. They have far more saleable assets. They have a recent history of posting profits in the premier league.
When we were sitting at similar levels in the premier league they were earning about £20m a year more.
Then factor in where we both are now, how much it would cost to bridge the gap.
They did for a number of years before the last relegation. They were/are making a profit?
Two snoozing giants. One valued at £50 million with another £70 million? debt?
The other £250 million+
One benefits from a place in the Premiership (for now)
The other is in the Championship (for now)
Would the value be with the higher priced club given that they still need an overhaul to keep their Prem place or us as the investment to get the ball rolling wouldnt need to be as high?
I can see advantages in both but for me the temptation of taking a club on its absolute arse and rebuilding it would be much more fun.
Everything is there for the right person to create a monster of a club and legacy and lets be honest you know if you fuck it up at least nobody will protest or even call for Boycoutts![]()
Imagine if we’d said we were better value than you last season when your asking price was thought to be considerably higher.
I think the point is that we are potentially good value as our value has hit rock bottom. Not a reflection on your value at all which undoubtedly has risen after promotion but has always been decent.....Say what you want about Ashley but the bloke runs a steady ship.
2 relegations in 7 years - ‘steady ship’
Financially yes, even after relegation. Ashley is many things but daft is none of them.....Look at what relegation did to us, you lot managed to spend £80 million on a promotion rebuild (obviously sold too but fuck did you manage some serious £££ for shite like sisseeerko)
Neither would be able to attract the top notch players required to break into the top 8 of the Premier league on a consistent basis. We'd be the better option of that I have no doubt.Newcastle without a doubt. They are in the PL already, have 50k+ crowds and there's a huge TV deal on the horizon. It's hurts to admit it but its true.
Neither. You'd need to throw such an idiotic amount at both just turn them around. You'd not see any kind return for a very long time
We don't need 100m in playing staff
