So do we start looking up the table?
Maybe not the next 2😂
West Ham play Leeds last game of the season.

Mind you they have to start winning soon. Starting with Burnley this coming weekend.
2 crackers at the bottom this weekend…great to observe from afar….

Leeds v Forest
Burnley v WH

Still only 5 points off 4th.

I don't think it'll happen, but we might as well give it a go.
5th will more than likely get CL football so even fewer points(4) off them places.

This is due to England co-efficient this season being way above other countries. The top two performing countries in European football get an extra place each season under the new UEFA competitions format.

Then 6th-7th would get EL if the FA Cup winner finishes top 5 and 8th would get UECL if the League Cup winner finishes top 5.

Not sure what happens to the league getting slots, if English clubs win the CL, EL and UECL. But all depends on where they finish in the league along side that.

I'd love us to win the FA Cup regardless of where we finish in the league mind.

You can widely get 150/1 for us to be relegated. Pretty much every bookie has us the 9th least likely team.

If anyone is still having a wobble, a £10 on that in the VERY VERY unlikely event it comes in would soften the blow.

I still think it will be a bridge too far this season, and there's no shame in that!

Our home form will have to stay pretty much as good as it has been all season (we're currently 3rd in the home table) and our away form will have to pick up a fair amount. We've had some excellent away results at Chelsea and Liverpool, but we're still 4th bottom. A lot will depend on how low the European places will go too.

England look set to get the extra champions league place, through the co-efficient table, with all but Newcastle (lol) qualifying automatically for the next stage on the Champions League, Villa qualifying for next stage of Europa, and Newcastle, Palace & Forest all in the playoffs of their respective competitions.

That would mean 6th get Europa league, and also 7th if the FA Cup winners also qualify automatically for the Champions League.

That leaves the conference league, which goes to the League Cup winners. As that looks extremely likely to be Man City or Arsenal, or possibly Chelsea, then the Conference League place goes to 8th. Villa have a fair chance of winning the Europa League. Them winning that would NOT create an extra position through the league.

If my understanding is correct, it's fairly likely that 8th in the Premier League will get you European football next season.

For me, the top 3 of Arsenal, City & Villa seems fairly nailed on. 4th & 5th seems to be a battle between Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool. That would result in one of them dropping to 6th. The battle for 7th & 8th is well and truly on, with Brentford, Sunderland, Fulham, Everton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Brighton & Spurs all capable of getting it. Anyone who manages to put a bit of a run together will get them I think.

My money would be on Brentford and Bournemouth. Brentford have been fairly consistent all season, Bournemouth have been under-performing and I think they will pick up after January. We aren't out of it, and a few more performances like last night from Brobbey & Diarra and it could be well on.

so theres basically no chance of it going to 9th place?

what if spurs were to finish outside the top 10 but won the champions league?

can't see us finishing 8th unfortunately. can deffo see us going all season unbeaten at home, finish 10th and get to the FA cup QF which would be an absolutely cracking season

problem for me occurs next season when expectations are all of a sudden raised massively from simply avoiding relegation

Or we just win the FA cup and the league position will take care of itself

I posted a similar but less thorough post on another thread!

If someone already in the top 5 won the Champions League would that create an extra space?

Extra places don’t get awarded to the league. 5 is the max for league placing for CL 2 for EL and 1 for UECL(if FA Cup and League cup winners gain Europe via league)

England could have 7 teams in the CL next season if Spurs and Forest won the CL/EL and finished out the top 5.

They could have 3 in the EL if Palace win UECL and finish outside of the league placings.

In answer to your question no 9th place won’t get European football

59 points should get us Europe, that means taking 23 from the last 14 games (1.64 ppg) I think its doable but we need to pick up the away form sharpish and if we can get somewhere around 6 wins, 5 draws, 3 losses that would set us up nicely, however unlikely it sounds.
