Born Kingston upon Thames. Whole family from Ryhope. Moved to whitburn in 84 supported the lads since then. Now live in Norfolk. I know i,m not a true Mackem but i'm a close second. ;)

My mam is from Seaham and my Dad is from Jarrow, both Sunderland fanatics,i was born in Derby,my parents moved there a year before i was born ,then moved back to Sunderland when i was two, lived in Grangetown, i live in West Boldon now.

Dad was from sunderland and moved south. I was born and Grew up in Surrey/South London. I'm sunderland till I die. No choice about it. I go to games at the sol and won't hide my accent because I'm not from Sunderland. But love the club and if anyone tells me that I'm not a fan cos I'm not from Sunderland they can fuck right off.

But I read it on here that us southern-born Lads fans aren’t as vociferous, passionate or committed!

I’m 49 now and I’ve known nothing different. Been a fan since I was a sperm. Surrey born and bred, like my dad was, whose parents were from Southwick.

Spent most of the first 30 years of my life travelling up and down the country following Sunderland.

Thinking of today, I was at the Bristol Rovers game at Eastville nearly 39 years ago (god I’m old) when we drew 2-2 in the 79/80 promotion season. I was at the game in May 1980 at Roker on a Monday night against West Ham when we secured promotion and the kids around me in the Paddock couldn’t believe I was not a Hammer with my accent (although my accent is Home Counties not Cockney).

Money (lack of), work, wife, kids all mean that I only get to go to a handful of games a season now. I’m rather jealous of those of you who live in the north east. I know it’s been a bit shit the past few years, but you don’t know how lucky you are.

Born and bred Leeds, dad from jarrow and got Sunderland bug from him and his side of family. Have three sons born watford general and all mlfs.
At the wycombe game steward thought we were wycombe fans until I got me da to speak up!
One of my watford born lads at Bristol Rovers today.
Supporting the lads is hereditary. We are all proud of our north eastern family roots.

Born and raised in Reading, now live in Kent...my grandad used to build ships
In Sunderland, my dad grew up in Roker...they moved to Hong Kong, then settled back in Portsmouth...and my dad ended up in Reading...

I’ve always supported Sunderland....never even crossed my mind support anyone else...school was interesting being the only kid out of about 700 who supported the lads and got in a few scrapes because of it....as many have said, Sunderland gets in your blood no matter what your background is...FTM

Never got in scrapes, but I would take no piss-taking from all the Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool fans at school.

I’d simply ask what they did at the weekend.

And they’d have been hanging out in Woking town centre while I was at Villa Park, Hillsborough, Ninian Park, Brisbane Road, Ashton Gate, whenever, supporting the Lads.

Frankly, I think they were somewhat jealous.

The economic history of the north east means that there is s massive group of people spread throughout the Uk and the world who were forced to leave but retained roots in the area. My grandfather was made redundant from shipyards up and down the north east coast in the thirties. My great grandfather raced pigeons and had a bakery in jarrow.Anyone who doubts my Sunderland supporting credentials because I grew up in Leeds and now work in the south can get fucked.

Born Hillcrest, Herrington, brought up in Durham, worked black ops in Northumberland for 9 years, then been in Hetton amongst my own kind for the last 23 years - much more preferable.

Wakey born & bred

Parents from Easington & Horden where all the family still ish

Most MLF’s, but my dad was a mag & travelled arl ower with them when he was young

Lived in Surrey for 10 years, then back to Wakey until early 80’s & then to Battle ( here).

So never had a mackem accent, been slapped by our lot a couple of times in early 70’s.

Now when I get to games I usually meet up with others from arl ower, we’re like the red arrows to a pub or the Deafy

My grandad’s family moved to Southampton from Hendon just after WWI to work on the ships. My nana moved down from Southwick to Weybridge in 1935 to join her sisters working in domestic service in the big houses there.

It just goes to show that economic migration from Wearside has been rife for a hundred years. Terrible really.

The only shame for me is that my kids don’t have the same attachment to the area that I have (and I’ve never lived further north than south Lincs) as many close relatives have died and the family unit has fractured.

And the expense of travel and tickets means I haven’t taken them to see Sunderland as much as I did as a kid. Eldest supports Arsenal but they’re our local team now, so, you know. Youngest I still have hopes for…

Dad was from Coxhoe and Mam from East Rainton. Me Dad went following the lads from being a kid when his big brother took him. He saw some players, he raves about Cloughie, loved him, and funnily enough ended up working alongside the lad who crocked him, think he was called Chris Arker, former goalie of Bury. I was born in Darlington and went to first Game in 1977 as a 9 year old. A 6-0 win v west ham. We went to Ferryhill Athletic one week and Roker the next for many years, jumping on a Martindales supported bus from Ferryhill.

My old man saw the opening of the SoL and I took him to the 92 cup final. I have lived in Surrey and Kent for 30 years, but get to games as and when I can. It’s my link to the old man as much as anything. He loved a match day and so do I. Can’t inagine ever not following the lads really.
