What has Speakman done to be so hated?

No chance.

Clarke, Jobe, Ballard.

Jury is still massively out on the rest.

This isn’t football manager. You buy players to play them not just cause you think you’ll make a profit on them.
Wouldn’t put Jobe in the same category as Clarke & Ballard. He’s a massive problem for me.

A striker that can score is all we need mate. We need a striker but it doesn't have to be experienced just good will do
It's not just about scoring. Certain elements of the game come with experience, knowing how to use your body to battle with centre halves, how to lead the line. Don't get me wrong some young players can do it, but it's not often and they're unlikely to be available.

I made this thread many months ago, and it was in response to another thread, to get both sides of the coin in the argument.

I've backed speakmann in the past, but even I'm getting frustrated now. His model of signing youth is a good one IMO, better than paying over the odds for Premier league has beens like was our model under Short. But he needs to be more flexible with it and sign some experience to help the young lads out when things get tough.

This summer is a huge one, if he gets the managerial appointment wrong, or fails to sign a decent striker&CDM, then it's pretty much game over for him here IMO.

He's signed some exciting young players, managed to get 10 mil for a crock with only a year left on his contract, got out of league 1 then the next season immediately in the championship play offs under him. We are moving in the right direction under him after languishing in league 1 for years. He has made a number of mistakes in a short period of time in the last couple of months, but overall he is doing a good job IMO
I agree with a lot of this… a lot of good work but undermined by some glaring mistakes. A balanced view. But on sites like this we tend to see the extreme and unfortunately the language is personal and therefore inappropriate.
Left one of the biggest clubs in England a laughing stock by signing a load of sick and injured weaklings in the hope that some of them generate a profit while shoehorning Jobe Bellingham into the starting 11 because he is bigger than his famous brother.

And he’s signed nee strikers and wasted all the money.

Blatantly picks the starting 11 too.
Get off the fence!

You seriously thinks we won’t make a profit on ba and Ekwah cirkin alese hahahahaha ok mate whatever the fees were tiny man altho ba is erratic his stats show goals and assists

I don’t.

Alese and Cirkin can’t stay fit.

Ba is shite.

Ekwah could make a profit but there’s no consistency with him.

I’d prefer we bought players with a view to them staying here and making a difference tbh. I don’t derive pleasure from the club potentially turning a profit.

Each to their own like.

I have also backed him. This isn’t just a little blip though. It’s a year maybe longer he has failed at his job and we’ve lost all momentum, have a poor squad and no manager. Chancers always get found out. I think we are seeing it now.

As are the super experienced ones. What I'm trying to say is there is a middle ground that would be acceptable. They don't have to be very experienced, just not complete shit like this seasons.

Agree.

Though I'd also say It's easier to acquire an experienced journeyman type with the qualities needed. A player that is competitive at championship level but clearly has a ceiling.

Realistically it's very hard to get a youngster who ticks all the boxes at the top end of the pitch because they're going to be hot property.

He’s teflon. Mowbray did an unreal job in the circumstances and gets that boot, Speakman’s been trash for 18 months and there’s no chance he’s going anytime soon by the sounds of it.
Spot on…Mowbray was perfect manager to manage the boys. As soon as he had some criticism of Speakman they fired him. Mowbray was right. Then he gets sick at Birmingham which tells me Sunderland treated him awful….Speakman is responsible in my eye for the whole of last season he is the one that needs to be fired….

It's not easy but the other 23 teams in the league managed to get strikers that scored more than ours.

His recruitment has been a complete and utter failure.
hull Norwich and westbroms top scorers have between 10 and 12 goals Jack Clarke scored 15 and we have a 18 yr old that got 7 not far off if only they had an experienced championship striker eh

Ba cost fuck all and his stats alone will turn a profit but that suit your agenda
