What has Speakman done to be so hated?

He's signed some exciting young players, managed to get 10 mil for a crock with only a year left on his contract, got out of league 1 then the next season immediately in the championship play offs under him. We are moving in the right direction under him after languishing in league 1 for years. He has made a number of mistakes in a short period of time in the last couple of months, but overall he is doing a good job IMO
Said on here in past week I would never say he hasn’t done plenty of good. But he’s clearly played a big part in sacking a head coach who was doing a good job in difficult circumstances and popular with fans and players alike. Then replaced him with someone who isn’t. This mess is on him and KLD.

Similar situation yes with all eyes looking upwards, everyone enjoying the football and loving the assembled squad of young promising players. Everyone full of hope.
12 months on and a £20m footballer missing and pretty much the same squad and new coach the cracks are there for us all to see. And the mood of hope and optimism has gone.
I can’t see where the next win is coming from and I don’t think I am alone there.
But we were loosing as many games last season

A few things I think:

I don’t think some people have accepted our (not so recent) decline, which probably saw us very close to complete collapse as per Bury. I think Speakman gets a lot of that unprocessed frustration directed at him, unfairly in many cases.

I think the change of fortunes of them lot up the road has compounded a lot of this frustration in the past 12 months, I think the penny only dropped for some when they beat us the other week.

I believe a lot of people are disenfranchised with football and the modern way of running things. Many (myself included) wish it could be like the days of Reid. I think Speakman very much embodies the new way of running football clubs, with his suit and tie and lack of northern accent. This is one of the reasons Mowbray and Allardyce are so popular, cos most can identify with them in some way.

Speakman isn’t perfect, and perhaps I have been conditioned to have low standards over the past decade, but I see the club going in the right direction, considering where we were 5 years ago.

Were you happy going to the match last season ?
I was
Were you enjoying watching us play win or lose ?
I was
Am I happy or even taking my seat at the match since Tony left ?
Nope been twice the Coventry game and the Newcastle game.

It’s all opinions and mine is we are going backwards playing dire football that doesn’t suit the talented squad we have.
Some might be happy that we Are losing as many games as last year but i want to see us improve on last year.

To answer the OP, I think it's the harping on about data driven appointments when there is no data that shows Beale is a better appointment than Mowbray.

Put that lie on top of the shambles at every turn of the derby and out feeble set up and performance in it and I think people are just fed up with our season withering away through cock up and lies.

I don't hate him, but I understand why some do.
You long you think he’s got left trenches ?

Player....................Age.........................Capped...............................Contract length

Pembele.................21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Seelt.....................20...................................................................5 years.
Trantis...................20..........................Australia u-23........................4 years.
Bellingham..............18..........................England u-19.........................5 years.
Aouchiche...............21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Semedo..................20..........................Portugal u-20........................5 years.
Mayenda.................18..........................Spain u-17...........................5 years.

The young players signed in the Summer, and there was a good few more of a similar ilk already signed previously.

This is what is being invested in, the length of the contracts, and the number of players at the club of a similar age and with a similar contract length show how hard it would be to reverse the project, even if the club decided to.
I think it's the other end of the scale that's worrying.

All of the players in that list would benefit from having some real experience to learn from. If the model says get them in on a free, so be it, but these kids aren't going to massively improve if there's no one in the team to learn from and the manager only has a combined 18 months experience himself. At this point, we can't bring in more youth, it just dilutes the game time for the players we have.

As it stands we have one player whom i'd say is experienced, playing regularly and at a high level, and that's Prichard. Even as I type that, I'm not sure he's of that much use to the young lads, as he doesn't seem the type to put an arm round them and pass on his knowledge.

Because they have both contributed in the championship played games and signed and a low price how are they bad signings they are young lads not even finished article

He didn’t fancy it here can’t blame him was never given time

We can’t afford to buy proven championship players man they cost a f***ing fortune ! He’s done wonders with the sums he’s had through his hands to even have us competing . People had us down for relegation when we come up

He’s ruining the club ???? We have just got out of league 1 man , look at the other knackers like dinfanti and the other one who I can’t remember from Chelsea look at their signings !!
Weird take from what I said, didn’t say he needs to buy proven players…

Disagree he has done wonders, he has took risks on available players who have flopped or have injury problems. The search seems to be for players who are available at the best price rather then looking for the players who we need, which leads back to my point I actually made about his focus being in the wrong place.

But we were loosing as many games last season

You’d think we never had annoying days last year. We won 7/23 at home
It’s all opinions mate but I enjoyed last season even when losing cos I could see us getting better, could understand Tony leaving if we brought in someone to take us fwd but that hasn’t happened.
It’s getting toxic and thats the fans feeding off the shit they’ve been fed.
Understandably so for me.

Last year expectations were lower imo that’s why

Not realising that we have to have a mix of youth and experience, he's left us well short.

This is why we are regressing. Far too many also look out of their depth.

Supporters are frustrated because we don't see any real level of ambition from the club. We had an unexpected chance to go up last season and the manager wasn't backed. Then it was clear this season that he wasn't too bothered about improving on 6th place. They know it will cost a fortune to compete in the Premier League and they don't seem to want to be responsible for that. So Speakman is an obvious one to criticise, even if the budgets are set by the owners.

4 x CF's - 3 of whom are probably only U23 level.
No RW since we sold Lihadji who wasn't up to it anyway.
No CDM's.
Shit load of AM's.

We've spent money - just not wisely.

Oh and IMO he's hindering a decent Head Coach appointment as I can't see anybody of any substance being happy reporting to an U23 Academy Manager.

We can’t afford to go out and buy ready made players, who’s flopped ?

I agree with this. I think the starting point by many is to look at 'the bad things' such as the failure to buy a meaningful centre forward, the last window in general and what looks like a really bad mistake with Beale. Its only right to call these issues out but they are alongside a lot of good stuff. Always though for me on the playing side of things its about overall progress as a whole. We got promoted and had an excellent year last year and that was down to his managerial choices and player purchases. We have plenty of players of value and the squad is night and day now compared to when he arrived. He derserves credit for that and criticism for more recent decision making.

He spends what he’s given to work with yet people blame him I’m sure if he had 50 million he would sign different players
