What has Speakman done to be so hated?

He hasn’t got us into copious amounts of debt and brought in “big name” signings.

The actual issue is the lack of communication or actual movement in the window

Only 2 permanent signings in the Prem so far. Nothing really moves until the big boys start splashing the cash.

Player....................Age.........................Capped...............................Contract length

Pembele.................21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Seelt.....................20...................................................................5 years.
Trantis...................20..........................Australia u-23........................4 years.
Bellingham..............18..........................England u-19.........................5 years.
Aouchiche...............21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Semedo..................20..........................Portugal u-20........................5 years.
Mayenda.................18..........................Spain u-17...........................5 years.

The young players signed in the Summer, and there was a good few more of a similar ilk already signed previously.

This is what is being invested in, the length of the contracts, and the number of players at the club of a similar age and with a similar contract length show how hard it would be to reverse the project, even if the club decided to.
Feels like we're in a transition year to me. Squad balance will be sorted out in the next 6 months, and next season we'll have something more settled.

To that end, sacking TM is even more baffling.

He just doesn’t come across as a proper football man for me. Listening to him is like listening to some senior manager bullshitting his staff with a series of ‘buzz terms’.
Soon as I hear anyone in football waffling on about projects I switch off.

He is ruining the club, he seems to see winning games and progressing as a club as secondary to developing younger players to hopefully sell on for more than you paid for them. He probably sees his future doing a similar role at a bigger club and wants to be seen as a success individually.

This has lead to a toxic set up where it is his way or the high way, any manager coming need to use his coaching staff and give his players game time. It’s cost us our last manager who I think was papering a lot of cracks and meant we had to really scrape the barrel with his replacement because no self respecting manager will work under him.

He deserves more stick than Beale. Beale is just the symptom

Your chart didnt favour you so you tossed a load of players that have contributed and started loads of games for a team chasing promotion and described them as bad signings. We wouldn’t be where we are if they were would we ????? They cost peanuts man guarenteed money back or profit that’s not a failure

You have to laugh. An absolute car crash of a signing like Lihadji and we made a profit.

He's signed some exciting young players, managed to get 10 mil for a crock with only a year left on his contract, got out of league 1 then the next season immediately in the championship play offs under him. We are moving in the right direction under him after languishing in league 1 for years. He has made a number of mistakes in a short period of time in the last couple of months, but overall he is doing a good job IMO

We were moving in the right direction*

Since last May we’ve gone backwards.

Squad weaker
Manager weaker
Quality of football worse

Thank god he unearthed those unknowns in Ballard Roberts and Clarke eh.

That's not what I asked.
How are we guaranteed a profit on Ba and Bennette?
Because they have both contributed in the championship played games and signed and a low price how are they bad signings they are young lads not even finished article

He didn’t fancy it here can’t blame him was never given time

We can’t afford to buy proven championship players man they cost a f***ing fortune ! He’s done wonders with the sums he’s had through his hands to even have us competing . People had us down for relegation when we come up

Again you've not answered the question.
How are we guaranteed profit?

Simply saying they are young doesn't cut it.
We've had countless young players that have left for free.

Do people think if we had a different sporting director we would be signing better players ????? The money they would get would be the same to sign players

Well I can’t see into the future but I’d like to think a near enough championship regular like ba at his age would command a fee of more than 1 million euros

He doesn’t decide the budget but he’s overseen a fair few mistakes recently mind.

Some of his statements just don’t help him either.

Sunderland don’t play with a number nine ….

Obsession with progression …..
I agree with everything there mate
For this to work though we have to keep improving and progressing, his recent recruitment and appointments mean this year we are doing neither and the buck has to stop with him cos it’s his job, or he has to go to kyril and say my budget is unrealistic and not try to be the modern day football Jesus and feed the 5000 on a can of sardines and a Greggs stottie.

Until the last game weren’t we in a similar if not better position than last season ?

Let's hope so, there's no guarantee though.👍

I think Beale continues to suffer from being employed by us in the first place. I didn’t agree with the sacking of Mowbray, but plenty did, and most would have expected a more exciting successor. Beale also suffered from the negative advance words from Souness, Sutton and others.
So the timing has been rotten for Beale and this is before we consider the FA Cup fiasco and the other issues which have strained relationships between the club and the fans.

Speakman has to work under a tight budget and the model set by the owners. If he had the money available he would be signing better calibre youngsters who could come straight into the team and make an impact.

It's not like he has big bucks and is just refusing to spend it. I bet given our low budget that we don't even have an adequate scouting system and instead rely on contracting data companies to find players, you really need a mix of both.

It appears we keep signing players with injury problems too which is very worrying, you are just throwing money away like you would if you were signing 30+ year olds which they refuse to do.
Has Beale got back to you yet? I think he might've found your wallet.

Similar situation yes with all eyes looking upwards, everyone enjoying the football and loving the assembled squad of young promising players. Everyone full of hope.
12 months on and a £20m footballer missing and pretty much the same squad and new coach the cracks are there for us all to see. And the mood of hope and optimism has gone.
I can’t see where the next win is coming from and I don’t think I am alone there.
