He’s every right to be unhappy.Well it's not is it? Broad has every right to moan.
He does and I know what you mean. The ‘world class’ comment and saying he ‘has nothing to prove’ kind of sticks in the craw. Perhaps maintaining a dignified silence would have been more advisable.Although I dosagree with thats happened, I kind of dont like Broad's piece there, cant help it, he sounds a bit entitled dont you think?
Personally I’d much prefer it thanHe does and I know what you mean. The ‘world class’ comment and saying he ‘has nothing to prove’ kind of sticks in the craw. Perhaps maintaining a dignified silence would have been more advisable.
But having said that, it’s a ridiculous situation that he’s fully entitled to feel aggrieved with and, as he says it would be wrong of him not to express that, if that’s what he feels he needs to do.
I’m still furious they’re not going, so can only imagine what they’re thinking. For my money, I’d have given Broad the captaincy.
Absolutely. I’ve no time for that bland claptrap, but I still don’t think he’s said exactly what he thinks here.Personally I’d much prefer it than
“I respect the selectors, and I just want what is best for the team”

I just think there is an inbetween this and what he said
No player should be guaranteed selection
We were massively outbowled in Australia like in pretty unique conditions for Australia
Batting was the issue but we didnt bowl great IMO
I think its worth pointing out that we have actually won a lot of tests away from home in the last few years, and Broad didnt contribute to them
Jimmy did mind, but I guess they just took th chance to try it without him.
He did contribute, 1st test in Sri Lanka and the three wins in South Africa he took wickets and played a big part in all of them.I just think there is an inbetween this and what he said

Leading wicket taker in South Africa, 14 wickets @ 19 is contributing he led the attack brilliantly. He didnt contribute much in those wins thats the point I am making, averaged 2 wickets per game.
They were still contributions to wins away from home which was your initial point though mate and he contributed as much as anyone else did tbf, more so than most in fact.He didnt contribute much in those wins thats the point I am making, averaged 2 wickets per game.

Taking 3 of Sri Lanka’s top 4 in tough conditions is also contributing and a big reason why were on top that test.
Squad just looks odd. Overton and Leach going even though it’s pretty obvious Root doesn’t rate either. Don’t know much about Fisher but would have preferred a left arm quick

Just looking at numbers doesn’t always tell full story. Prior to the 5th ashes test Woods numbers didn’t look great but think everyone agreed he’d been our best bowler- thankfully he got his rewards. That’s because he played every game. 14 wickets not amazing in a 4 match series. I like broad in just making the point I think his piece is over the top. Especially considering he will more than likely play in the summer
I agree the issue for me is that they’ve left them 2 out but picked like Woakes and Overton
If it was archer, stone, wood and Robinson etc you could understand
I’m playing devils advocate a bit here. I just think the column was slightly self entitled
And I’d have Anderson quite a bit ahead of broad in importance
Agree on Anderson and I get where you’re coming from with Broad & the tone of this piece. I know loads that can’t stand him and if he wasn’t our all time second best seamer, he’d probably get more stick than he does. I’d have rathered if he was gonna do a piece like this he hadn’t held back and told us exactly what’s going on, rather than skirt round the edges, or not said anything at all. That’s because he played every game. 14 wickets not amazing in a 4 match series. Definitely Root and Stokes decision, actually think Stokes might have had quite a lot to do with it. Based on not much more than a hunch admittedly.btw strangely despite what I said there I agree with The post about broad being captain for a bit
Not the worst shout
Certainly root should not be captain IMO
This is very much a Root n Stokes decision I think and Strauss is just fronting up for it and showing leadership
he has a central contract to protect remember-I'd imagine there's a clause in that limiting what he can say.Agree on Anderson and I get where you’re coming from with Broad & the tone of this piece. More I think about it the more I think Broad is just a no brainer as captain, even if only for 18 months or so until someone else hopefully emerges.
Cummins has shown it’s possible.
Exactly this. Worth another look as a top-order bat. Let’s play people in their best positions before discarding them.Came in the side as a top order batsman and we decided to give him the gloves and bat him at 7. I’d have took him just as another option at the top of the order - got a 100 for the lions in Australia so has a little form
