Completely understand your point there but was times Gayle was injured and Murphy wasn't played or they could have went with a two up front etc but only going by hearing what mags said etc and when hearing radio saying he's barely played etc
Murphy did play when Gayle was out, Murphy was second choice.

Playing in the Championship or winding the club up. Hmmmm tough choice
I don't know what you mean by "winding the club up". What I will say is that not getting out of the Championship could potentially "destroy" the club.

In a sense, you can't guarantee success through splashing the cash..
It is all about increasing the probability of success.

Good grief.

What next? Westwood, Bardsley, Brown, Wallace, Whitehead, Buckley, Bridcutt, Fletcher?

Having said that, Murphy scored my favourite ever lads goal.

No. Us rinsing 200 million on 3 years as yous may well do if you spend another 70 million this summer as reported will destroy the club. Or 120 million just to get us back in a position to compete in the prem. Especially bearing in mind the debt we are already in.

Anyone who suggests we do that is off their heads. We've spent years throwing fortunes at shit and it's a big part of where we are now. We should looking to do what Burnley have done, not Newcastle, even if it takes a few years

So would I, but that's just a measure of how ridiculous our transfer policy has been for the last decade.
No it hasn't. Our policy has been paying massively over the top fees and wages for average or below average players. Signing Fletcher on a free would be good business imo

some people on here are f***ing thick deluded cu.n.ts we will need about 4 strikers next season after defoe fucks off. murphy would be a cheap option who scores a few goals to boot we haven't got 100 million to spend ffs f***ing idiots

Shurrup man ya daftun.

Was more than worth the 3 million we paid for him, scored some important goals and did very well when needed, we just need a championship club to offload him to, best get in quick before the bigger championship clubs come knocking.

 I'm Glad you're loving this but don't forget your still shit.

The bloke will want paying ynar......and he won't be willing to take much of a pay cut either.

There's a few masonry repairs round our back want doing. I'm off to get the toupret when I've finished my tea. Tell him I'll meet him at the builders warehouse at half ten.

I came into this thread with an open mind but his is the Short of it. It is exactly the type of signing we should be getting away from but on a championship scale.

1) Where has £200m come from?
2) Newcastle made £30m+ in the summer transfer window.
3) This "debt" you mention, that's part of my point, in the Championship Sunderland will be unable to pay that "debt".
4) Are we supposed to be talking to each other?

34 year old strikers.
I feel that anyone who feels that just buying lower division players and/or promoting U23's doesn't understand the grind that is the championship. Players like Murphy who mainly sit on the bench but can come in a play to system are what you are going to need...

I've went through it why on this thread. With the greatest respect I'm not going to repeat myself

80 mill to get relegated, 50 mill to get promoted, 70 million as reported this summer.
Some/most of the debt will be cleared with reduced wages/parachute payments/player sales/staff cuts etc so it isn't going to be particularly difficult to stay afloat in the championship if we spend within our means. If we to were rinse 50 million on worse players than we have now, then another 70 after promotion we will be worse off than we are now. £50 million isn't even needed to get promoted (the 7 sides below you probably didn't spend that much between them) so why would I want to risk the future of the club to copy what Newcastle have done when there are other sides who have done it on a shoestring and well within their means? I'd quite happily see us do what Burnley did in getting promoted, not spending much, being relegated again then using that money to consolidate and make a better fist of it the following year when we are in a better financial position
No idea what you are talking about in the last part

We don't have a system to play to

I'm so glad there are so many mags handing out helpful tips on how to get promoted from buying the league.

If only we had won the f***ing division plenty of times before on a sixpence.
