Well played Stoke

They were nothing special but set up very well, as most have since we lost RS.

The typical high block, physical pressure, knowing we have no out ball due to a lack of a CF. As such, we end up playing deep, make mistakes and concede.

Their first goal was very unsportsmanlike and set the tone, sadly our boys lost their heads and after that it was men against boys and they taught us a lesson.

I don't know if there are Stoke fans on here but I know that the odd one or two will be viewing this forum and kind of getting the impression that we have the God given right to win and we hate getting beat, they were the better team on the day.

Haven't seen it as was at work but equally there shouldn't be Stoke fans crowing about today's result, because at the end of the day we're 16th in the league and have finished in the bottom half four seasons in a row despite spending millions. We have a lot of work to do.

I can understand the frustration. I said before a ball was kicked this season that this league is crap and I still stand by that so can understand the frustration at not winning a game at home in this league. I can reel off a number of sides we should have beat this season but didn't despite absolutely dominating them.

Ultimately I'm just pleased we've got 3 points and are inching away from the drop and heading into a summer where we can start to invest in players again, where hopefully we've learned our lesson somewhat and will start to invest in good players rather than players either at their peak or just past it.

Neil's first window was decent in that respect so hopefully a sign of things to come for us.

👍

I’ve not followed his career closely, I grant you , but I always thought he was one of those players who would find the net regularly in the Championship.
Seems I’m mistaken

He was. There's no doubt he was an excellent striker at this level for a long time. Seems he's been finished for a while now though.

On paper it probably seemed a decent signing for Stoke at the time but reading their forum lately they can't stand him and he's on relatively big money for another season.

Agreed, well played Stoke. We were shit, easily rolled over, and their shithousery was masterful, especially not giving us the ball back for their first goal which set the scene. Also the ref allowing them to go down faking injury each time we were gaining momentum was crap.
It's been coming for a while, and someone was going to spank our arses sooner or later, just bad luck it was Judas.
Basically, terrible ref, off day, lucky opponents, oppo manager who knows us inside out, and we played the occasion rather than the match.
Still happy with our position and progress but today was a real wake up call.

The memo has gone out to the league on how to stop Sunderland playing and Alex Neil knows better than most , the counter attacking was stoke through and through and the bald guy had a very good game .

Stoke did well but we gifted the game on a plate to them today by playing utter dross, Alex Neil is an ass for ditching us and will have to take the grief he gets on the chin but he also does deserves the credit for getting us promoted from League One when we were all over the place, funny enough feels a bit the same now as it was after the Bolton hammering last year, some younger players tired and need a rest, the manager not knowing what he is doing, TM is doing his best LJ impression.

They have battered us at the SOL two times in a row. Although the last time was in the prem. Anyone remember when Shaqiri and Arnautovic tore us apart? They had a quality team back then.
