I like this appointment, we have gone through a string of 'big name' managers who have all been found to be totally lacking in substance.

I think this lad will instil a bit of grit and graft whilst also trying to play a bit of football.

Job now is to get rid of as much of our current crop of overrated shite, bring in some hard workers with experience in this league and blood some of our home grown youngsters.

I am happy to spend a couple of years in the championship if it means we can build a solid platform to progress from and I think this fella will be just the ticket.

True  we're just that much of a basket case at the minute with Short still here that I can see why some managers might have wanted to avoid becoming another statistic in the SAFC managers graveyard.
Why can't we show potential managers what a bloody fantastic club we are like? We got the fanbase, the ground, Academy. We seem to feel sorry for ourselves and say this is all we can attract. Have some balls and at least try.

The lad asked you a question and you never answered. I'll repeat it, who would you have tried to appoint?
...and I repeat again. Not my job. That is what Bain and every other CEO gets paid for a fortune for. Also, like I said previously there is a big world out there. Do your job and leave no stone unturned. Oh and for the 3rd time you can't engage in debate so that's my fill.

Agree with all that as well after McInnes said no I hoped we'd broaden our horizons or even have a look at the likes of that manager from Fulham because the favourites list the bookies kept putting out was depressing but I've got no faith in the board and Bain being capable of doing that and it's proved.

This has a similarity to the appointment of Dennis Smith IMHO. Here's hoping.

I've either missed that or completely forgotten. I have memory issues so it's likely I knew but forgot! He was a canny poster, spoke his mind. Was it natural causes or illness? I have no idea how old he was.
Cancer. Late 50s I'd guess.
Last time I saw him was on a London smb neet out. Think he was emigrating to NZ first thing the next day iirc. Strangely enough I walked by that pub this morning. Wendy Richards was born in it soap fans.

I said from the start that Moyes would be a catastrophic appointment. I have no gut feeling about Grayson at all, though. I totally agree with your last paragraph, immediate promotion is not necessarily the best thing for the club.

If it happens, then great, but I hope we don't spunk wads of cash on tired old has beens and players with no pace, no hunger and loads of attitude to achieve it.

It was a long term illness and he fought it belligerently, as he would.

I think he was mebbes late 60s early 70s.

I guess it's a bit late for it, but that's very sad. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'm thinking Smith too. Have a good feeling about this one. Mind I had the same feeling a year ago...

Thanks. The forum can only be a poorer place without him. He's one of the posters that stood out from the crowd.

That's us fucked then. Cheers for that!

I liked what he said in his interview basically saying he wants the lads to come to training and enjoy it not think it as a chore and graft hard. Here is to hoping but we will see over the next 5 weeks and first few games of the season.

who are the other two guys in the pic ?
Both been around the arse end of the FL for a while. Seen ALL the players down there more than once. If there's any bargains to be had then they know/knew em.

Like yr Dennis Smith link :)
In training tomorrow he just needs to say to a few of them " you have appointments with Mr Bain, have a good life, fuck off - the rest of you prove you are worth keeping, now let's get to work"
:)
