In Sheffield we have a bit of a thing regards Leeds.
Sheffield is the traditional heartland of football whereas Leeds is traditionally a big rugby league area.

However Leeds always receive far more media attention than Sheffield.

Leeds United receive positive media attention based on their 40K home support and selling out the away end.
However a single Sheffield team would have a 60K regular support, so it's no comparison. Sheffield is far and away a bigger football city.

Take sheffield as a whole..Be 40k in league 1....be towards 60k in the championship..and well f.ook knows in todays Prem



But f.ook that...prefer to argue the toss with you lads....makes the City go round, banter with the next door neighbour..texts from yer mates, arguin' in a cricket dressing room, in the pub, on here...nah...love the rivalry....

I never say much to people who don't witness it apart from when you are somewhere for example holiday just see who has to have their replica tops on every day, who are the loudest/centre if attention , and who has to let everyone know where they from,

Leeds are a big club but I think that’s down to their 70s team. It’s still recent enough to still be in people’s minds that they were once great. Bit like Forest under Clough.

Wednesday and United would fill their stadium every other week in the PL as Leeds do now. Leeds in the Championship had crowds similar to both Sheffield clubs now. Leeds are without doubt the Mags of Yorkshire.

Whereas we were massive until the 1950s and are largely irrelevant now. People from that generation are nearly dead now.

You happen to meet a bloke with a Sunderland shirt on, Swindon, West brom etc,.....some of the clubs who's fans post on here..Sheff united...(FFS!)..You can chat history, football, remember matches, and have a reight good football natter...Meet a Man utd fan, arsenal ..They know absolutely jack of owt else bar arsenal since wenger came....
Wednesday fans, Sunderland, Swindon, Sheff utd West brom, villa Stoke city...The fans are steeped in it, the history, the whole football thing..makes for a great night....I'll give you West ham, millwall..they know their stuff
But Crikey..ive met about 4 Arsenal fans abroad..and they know f.ook all about owt bar Berkgcamp and Henry

Enjoyed reading this thread. Learnt a lot about Sheffield! There is a definite theme in football support now between those of us who support our clubs without delusions of grandeur, respecting others, and those who have that sense of entitlement and subsequent animosity /arrogance towards other clubs. Obviously a huge generalisation but a lot of truth in it, and every club has its nasty tosser element. Good luck to both Sheffield teams this season.

Might of got the wrong Brewery John...But were you there when a bloke died by falling into one of the vats.....a rumour went round the Kop at hillsborough that an accident had happened one saturday morning, and a well known owls fan had died when he overbalanced..I'm going back some years mind....

That was at stones brewery opposite the gardeners neepsend.It wasn't a vat it was a copper with over 3000 gallns of boiling wort.he slipped and went through the inspection door head first, although he received %100 burns he somehow managed to climb out before dying. I knew the bloke as he was a cousin of a workmate and used to frequent Jubilee sports club.

Tony Currie was my favourite United player....(ask yer dad)....He came to Hillsborough with an england 11 once....Wednesday fans simply tipped up to give him grief...he tore us apart and kept blowing kisses to the Kop, there were folk f.ookin' frothing at the mouth, it was bloody hilarious

I am reading a book called 'Flying over an Olive Grove' which is about one of Wednesdays early professional players. The book was co-witten by a Sunderland supporter who I met at a Sunderland ladies match at Huddersfield and he kindly gave me a copy.
 
Very interesting thread. Same as most on here, have no issue with either Sheffield team (apart from when they beat us each week!). Both "proper" clubs with passionate and friendly fans.

I can't imagine supporting a club from a two team city; a lot of the Us v The Mags rivalry is based on the geographical differences (accent etc) not just football.

I'm nearly 60 man

I lived in Sheffield when it had buses that took you home for about 10p, had a Hole in the Road, bendy buses, massive markets at the top end of town, The Stonehouse pub with its mediaeval cobbled street and light show at the back, an egg box town hall, and I was a regular at concerts at Sheffield City Hall including The Smiths.

I stayed at Shreds (RIP) mam and dads house in Intake after night matches and before away bus trips and drank down London Road with him. The Crown was my home before home games, loved it.

Despite being an unemployed graduate when I lived there at a time that the 80s recession had bitten hard, I loved living in Banner Cross. Travelled all over the city walking on the moors until I got a job in London and eventually ended up in Sunderland.

I lived in Sunderland by the time of Dane Whitehouse and Bobby Davison but was at both games( I had season tickets at the Lane and Sunderland from 92 till the early 2000s)

Shred was around when I started going but he passed before o knew who he was I used to hang with Lester divers back in 00s,my mate lives on London Road and that's where I'm at at the moment he's offered to let me move in I'm thinking I might do,London Road as changed abit but still full of blades especially on matchdays I love it just seeing the full Road full of red n white

Aye, the Lansdowne (home of the BBC) the Tramway and probably other pubs gone since my heyday in the 80s
