Can anybody, perhaps one of our resident Owls or Blades, give an overview of their rivalry?

Are the historic differences social, economic, geographic within Sheffield or something else?

Are there stereotypes of the fans? What lines do the break along?

I lived near Hillsborough for a number of years from the early 90's , from what I saw there was little rhyme or reason to who you supported ,I knew brothers and fathers/uncles who supported one or the other , it's not necessarily a family or a geographic thing either as I know Wednesday fans from South of the City centre and Blades from North Sheffield also

Not that looney

@Bladecat
Well since you asked....

Sheffield people are generally great and it's a good city to live in

Both teams have seen good and bad times over the last 40 years and I followed the Blades down to Division 4 and back up to the Premier and back to League 1.

I didn't live in South Yorkshire for more than a couple of years but always found Wednesday had a lot of arrogant, up themselves fans, with lots of plastics, who never attended games, bragging about their players, crowds etc ""We're gonna" was a favourite phrase.

The Blades have a large fan base from some rough areas of Sheffield like Manor, Park Hill etc but also support from the leafy suburbs of the South and West of Sheffield.

Wednesday fans always boasted about Hillsborough hosting big games whilst it decayed, and whilst it's big the ends behind the goals have far too many pillars blocking views. United have improved Bramall Lane a lot though the cheapskate conversion of the Kop into a seated stand, left it with the same problem as Hillsborough ie seats with no view.

I still watch the Blades on tv but haven't been to a live game (bar a couple v Sunderland) for about 10 years.

Have to say @wednesday1957 and @Visiting owl disprove my theory about Wednesday fans being full of emselves

@Parsoncross could give you a view

Years ago geographically you could define a blade from an owl but these days blades live up Hillsborough and owls live near the lane,met a few decent owls and my best mates one but they just go on about how they are too big for league one when blades accepted it for 6 years and also a blade will be honest owls have far better away support than us but we have better home support even when in the same division
