We weren’t outclassed

People on here saying he gets a pass for his defensive work as he plays as a second striker, yet time and time again he was getting the ball between our two centre halves.
You wet the bed every single time ffs. I wouldn’t be surprised if your first name really was Donald

Try to stop being so emotional for once please and try to find some wisdom. It’s liberating.

Easy to say sitting and watching. The pass to Talbi was the right decision. But in the moment he's tried to chip him. It's an absolutely brilliant save as well by the way...

Said before I’ve only seen it live, but from that one view of it I’m not convinced it goes in even if it beats Martinez. It’s a really weak effort with nout behind it.

He’d watched Isidor have exactly the same chance about 2 minutes before man.

I will spend the journey back from Villa Park trying to do exactly that. Hopefully by the time we get back I can work out what the fuck he was doing.

It's a poor decision - that's it. Under pressure. Doesn't warrant people giving abuse, or calling for him to be dropped etc. It's football ffs.

In the most part we lacked creativity and quality in the final third, a weakness we are fully aware of and will no doubt address in the summer. Villa on the other hand were clinical and showed us where we need to get to.

Taking McGinn and Watkins off effected them hugely, they became disjointed and we got a foothold.

Before that, they were tactically better and the obvious mistakes didn’t help.

Diarra never sees Talbi when Diarra's running through on goal. It's only when Diarra slows down that Talbi gets near but Diarra doesn't turn to see him as he's focused on the 1 on one with Martinez.

Then that’s something that he needs to work on. He needs better awareness of what’s going on around him. If his finishing is so shite, he needs to know how to pass.

I said 3 days ago I’d have played Talbi ahead of him. Wasn’t anything against Diarra, but thought Enzo central with Talbi wide was a better option away at Villa.
McGinn is quality - one of the most underrated in the league. Probably because he's a knob.

He was excellent today McGinn. I was frustrated as I thought we could get the better of him, but he showed real class today.

Diarra will play every game for the rest of the season, I imagine. He's better than a lot of people are giving him credit for...

He's got himself away and he's locked onto what he's gonna do. If he starts turning around to look for our players who aren't in his peripheral vision then he'd probably lose focus in that very short time it all happens.

He's tried the chip and messed it up and that's the main sickener. Aye he should have tried to slot it away but he could have missed also, just like many top players have done in the past and always will.

Agreed it's a poor decision from Diarra, but people scapegoating him or calling him "shite" because of one bad decision are thick as mince...
Yep. Proper babies and mag like behaviour. Absolutely embarrassing.

What gets me is diarra has just seen hume smash it past martinez from a tighter position and less of the goal to see, why the hell has he got to try and be clever, just hit the fucka. Got to give praise to martinez, he wins that match for villa with that one brilliant save. Great keeper

It's a great save tbf.
It wasn't.

He'd already started to go down to his left anticipating the shot Diarra SHOULD have taken.

But instead of hard and low into EITHER corner, or even sliding the ball to Talbi who was racing up, he decides to be Charlie Big Potatoes and chip the keeper at close range.

He put the ball, literally, the only place that Martinez could get his hand to save it.

We had arguably a better first half than Villa. They were better second half overall. We never gave up, scored 2 late goals when we’d been written off yet again. We could’ve won it but they did, because same as us, they never gave up.

They are a great team but we were able to score 3 against them. We made mistakes, but so do Arsenal, so do Man City. We can’t expect our lads to be perfect and make the right split second decision every time, because the top teams don’t every time either. The fact that this game could’ve been 3 points to us today shows how far we have come and should give everyone encouragement. Villa are a top 4 team, established, in Europe this year fighting for a trophy and in a Champions League qualifying place and we matched them. Anyone can pick fault, but take a step back and see how far we’ve come. The lads deserve encouragement, not some of the grief they’re getting from some fans. We’re not mags you know!
Spot on, although we need to have a look at our defensive performance today as it was weirdly one of our worst of the season.

I hope he is better than people (me included) give him credit for.

I make a point of watching every game back midweek after the game. I’m very emotional when watching, acknowledged that time and time again.

I’ve watched mags & spurs back recently, and I was disappointed with him in both. Defensively he’s really poor, which is fine if he’s offering something going forward. He’s not doing that at the moment.

The injuries haven’t helped him and I accept that. The midfielders we’ve signed have all cost less, and been better.

People would've been creaming their knickers if Roefs had pulled that off.

This simply isn't true. He's closed the angles down a lot by that point. I'm not saying Diarra shouldn't do better, but let's not pretend that's a routine stop.
