We weren’t outclassed

I thought they were a level above us in all honesty, probably one of the best I’ve seen, and that moment at the end flattered us.

Emri is such a good manager and Villa are lucky to have him.

That's like a keeper should never save a one v one ? Bizarre outlook on it. Keeper gambled on staying big and not going to ground and it paid off.

This. It's frustrating he missed, but it was more of an excellent save that a shocking miss. I'd understand if he'd just fell over or hooked it wide.

People miss chances, against us, for us. It all evens out and I'm sure teams will miss some sitters against us in the remaining games.

Football would be tedious if every big chance ended in a goal.

This^^ they cut through us with ease at time with 2-3 passes. Very, very impressed with them.....but, we somehow managed to nearly win the game somehow and scrap our way back into the game against an Champions League team really, in their own backyard...and that gives me huge confidence going forward as a team and in Le Bris for next season. Unbelievable character we have.

Although I agree with you , I prefer to put it like this : to get as close to stealing the 3 pts as we did was a monumental effort from the lads. That Rodgers is a powerhouse ands with Mcginn on the right and Watkins up front Villa are a top top side. We scared the shit out of them at the death.

On second half showing I would kind of agree with you but there is some context to take into account. First half I think we were the better team and were hit with a sucker punch for the second goal when we were well on top. Conceding the third so early meant we had to push forward and left a lot of space in behind. Their biggest strength is their speed on the break and it showed. Nordi was constantly caught out of position high up the pitch and O’Nien was often exposed one on one with Ollie Watkins.

But isn't the fact they scored three "sucker punch" goals precisely because they have the speed, skill etc. to calve through us. Sitting back and absorbing pressure before breaking down the wings is exactly how they play. Even when they were sitting back a bit, our centre midfield couldn't get into the game at all.

As we know from Cov in the play offs, dominating possession etc. doesn't actually mean you're the better team. It's just the pattern of the game sometimes.

They were very clinical and have some excellent players. Watkins had one of the best games I’ve seen from a number 9, excellent performance.

Our defending was poor for all of their goals, but good teams make the opposition look bad.

You said they were a level above us though. On first half viewing they weren’t and I pointed out the reasons why the second half was so different. Both teams had 7 shots on target each, the Martinez save and a little more Premier League experience won them the game in the end.

We’ve been a good team all seasons

The signs were obvious when we signed the players we did

More frustrating than ever for the 33/1 top 10 bet.

Plenty twists left yet and whilst we might not get Europe which is no failure, the groundwork for the summer and season ahead is laid and our journey goes into 5th gear.

shame about the acca but one hell of a single
