Can't drill a pen imo. Journalist is wrong there. From 12 yards when the keeper is anticipating it, no drill.

20 yards, 25 yards, shot at pace with no rise is a drill.

The keeper anticipation of it has no bearing. Nor really does the distance. A drill is a shot fizzed in hard along the deck. Drilled.

I agree about the trajectory but distance is important. I'm backing down a bit after your description there because I've thought of other goals that could be described as driilled, in open play from 12 yards.
Can't drill home from 3 yards or 6 yards though.
