Steered is helping on its way. A cross coming in, and the slightest touch to steer it home.

Can't drill a pen imo. Journalist is wrong there. From 12 yards when the keeper is anticipating it, no drill.
20 yards, 25 yards, shot at pace with no rise is a drill.
Not sure aplomb gets used anywhere else other than football. Never heard it in any other context
