Was it really a penalty ?

Worst referee so far.

Soft pen. for them; inexplicable failure to award us two.

From Colombia, you say... ?

Of course it was a pen, those who say it wasn't have not got a clue; since when can you hold your arms up, and whack someone in the face ? 'Shielding the ball', don't be daft

I agree Kane’s were definitely penalties up til last night I thought VAR had been brilliant but it’s seems like it’s as inconsistent as the on field ref

If you watch it carefully you´ll notice that Kane drags the Tunisian down on him by grabbing his arm... No penalty whatsoever that, which is why VAR disregarded it

2 out of the 3 were penalties for me. The Tunisia one definitely, the one on Kane in the first half definitely, but the second one looks like Kane trying to engineer it by holding his opponent's arm and pulling him down.

Inconsistent as fuck these referees like.

They're human. And frankly, it will always be wildly inconsistent at a world cup because we have to have referees from all over the place, even though half of them have never refereed high level football on any regular basis.

They'd get slammed for being Eurocentric and biased, but frankly the moment Italy didn't qualify, I would have just filled the refereeing ranks with Serie A refs.

The Tunisian walked into Walkers back so Walker put his arm up to keep him off. The Tunisian then went down like he'd been shot and massively exaggerating the very minor contact, to try and get Walker sent off. Ref should have booked the Tunisian for play acting.

I don't even think it was a foul. If anything the Tunisian lad walked into him.

However, once it's been given, it's presumably been given for an elbow to the face.
Ref bottled a red given that he blew for the offence.

The VAR really helps but we need clarification how it’s used.

never wanted VAR but have to say the way it has been used almost changed my mind, by all accounts there are people watching every incident and can get word to the ref if he misses something...for one, how he missed the wrestling move on kane i have no idea and for another, surely the VAR ref brought the fouls on kane to his attention, if i was southgate i would be demanding clarification, i know it wont change the result but it might help them in future games, saw a game the other day where a defender wrapped his arms around an attacker and the VAR called a penalty, if it is going to be as inconsistent as the man in the middle then why waste money and time?
Which was my argument against it.

VAR should have a review system in it like cricket, the captain can call for an incident to be looked at and refs decision overturned it if was obviously wrong. They get 1 review per half and if they are wrong they lose it. Kane would have then been able to have that decision looked at and pen awarded.

Never a penalty, the bloke had no chance of getting the ball and ran into the defender .

Just look at his reaction when he heard the whistle. Laughing and slapping his knees.

So why is the defender throwing his arm like that? He said after the game its questionable if that would be given on the Premiership. Its soft, and he made the most of it, but can certainly see why it was given.
