Was it really a penalty ?

VAR is only as good as the ref who has to use it. It’s a tool for him to get the decisions right at second look, this ref wasn’t having any of it and didn’t want his authority challenged by the system in my opinion. VAR is just there as a second opinion, the ref chooses to use it or not though.

So is it only if the ref refers it? I thought it happened in the background and they could give him a shout

Based on tonight I am wildly wrong

Stones have one of their defenders a good shove as Kane was getting dragged to the floor. That could have easily been a penalty or a freekick the other way.

Never a penna and neither was it a foul on the Brazil defender last night that all the pundits reckon was. Its a contact sport for fucks sake. There wasn't even enough contact in either situation to harm a fly. Grow of a set of balls for fucks sake

This. Theirs was a penalty, and Kane should've had one from the corner when someone attempted a rear naked choke on him. So 1 each would've been fine.

never wanted VAR but have to say the way it has been used almost changed my mind, by all accounts there are people watching every incident and can get word to the ref if he misses something...for one, how he missed the wrestling move on kane i have no idea and for another, surely the VAR ref brought the fouls on kane to his attention, if i was southgate i would be demanding clarification, i know it wont change the result but it might help them in future games, saw a game the other day where a defender wrapped his arms around an attacker and the VAR called a penalty, if it is going to be as inconsistent as the man in the middle then why waste money and time?

To me it's soft as shite. He's positioned wrong (should have his back to goal facing out) but all he does is turn and shrug and the lad goes down like he's been shot.

I'm not one for slating referees but he was shite tonight. Been a big fan of VAR so far too but also useless tonight
VAR will never work to the satisfaction of everyone, I hate it personally and wish it would disappear, the very fact that we have varying opinions about last night's decisions must prove that it's adding nothing to the game but more controversy?
