Warne autobiography

Two thirds of the way through. Bit bored to be honest. The number of people he slags off and moans about it quite funny. I was half expecting him to add "needless to say, I had the last laugh" on the most of the stories.

Expected better

I’m just reading it now mate, half way through, looked for a thread on it and your Needless to say was exactly what I was going to post

I enjoyed the bit when he is talking about leg spin, interesting stuff

But it’s hilarious the lack of credit he gives others, just not being honest

Even an innocent bit talking about Stuart Macgill ends up with Warne saying his record is only good because he got picked on spinning pitches and he has himself to thank for opening the door for leg spinners

I wonder if he even knows he is doing it

I’m debating giving up, read a lot of cricket autobiography books, even by players I’m not fond of, but I just don’t think this is a true version of what happened, it reminds me of KP’s book to be honest

KP’s like Marmite isn’t he. Almost everyone hates him and nobody knows quite what he’s made of.

Brilliant player, but caused problem everywhere he has been, so it's not coincidence. He should have been sacked after the texting thing really to be honest, after that he was always a step away from pushing it too far.

I can't stand the bloke personally, but others seem to like him, each to their own.

Aye, he's a bellend. His autobiography was cringey as fuck too.

I read Warne's earlier in the year. Pretty disappointed, never known someone name drop so much. Who gives a fuck that you know Chris Martin?

Was pretty scathing of Steve Waugh too, incidentally I'd read his book prior to Warne's and he was a bit more eloquently critical of the Ken Doll. Complete polar opposites like.

The Waugh thing shows Warne up like, fair play he is annoyed he got dropped but take it on the chin, they won the test match, it worked

He talks about Steve Waugh as the "most selfish man in cricket", I mean talk to any other player who played under him and they say he is the most selfless

I'd like to think I wouldn't be that bitter about stuff and just take stuff on the chin with some perspective, but who knows.

Its like the KP thing, he talks about how bad it was under Flower n the dressing room, all the other players in the dressing room say it was the best time of their lives, the best team they have played in, which is why they were the best team in the world, won in Indi and Oz

The claims from KP and Warne don't add up to the reality, just cant take criticism by the looks of it, which is a shame as they were mint players.

I remember watching the ball of the century in 1993, live on the telly. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I don’t think Gatting or Dicky Bird could either. England were coming back into the match iirc and Gatt was a superb player of spin even if he was a little bit past it. Thing is it wasn’t a fluke coz he did the same to Robin Smith a few overs later but it took Smiths outside edge.
I always think the greatest players are game changers (eg Gilchrist) and Warne was a true great.
Haven’t read his book though, don’t fancy it, strikes me as a Daily Star type of read.

Yeah don’t read it, it’s garbage

Who would have guessed one of the biggest egotistical wankers that ever lived would have a shit book!
Egotistical yes, but bloody good player with more than a few stories to tell.
I'd venture that his book was worse than Pietersen's "poor wikkle me" work of fiction

I’m nearly finished book,I get what people are saying about it but personally I’m enjoying it. Then again I’m quite sad ,I read all football and cricket autobiographies.

Although Warne is quite critical of some of his contemporaries, he also praises both friend and foe . It’s better than sitting on the fence without an opinion like some of the autobiographies I read. I’m sure you concur.

Its not that, its just I don't believe he really thinks the things he says

What I find incredible about that era of Australian cricket is how they managed to keep it quiet how many of the players did not get on with each other.

Because its not really that true, they're nearlly all best mates, almost weirdly too close like a lot of them, read nearly all the autos from them

One thing I agree with Warne about is the nauseating stuff about the baggy green, when they wore them at Wimbledon man

Its Warne mainly who didn't love some of them, but I can't help think it all comes from the fact he wasn't made captain and that guys younger than him like Gilchrist and Pointing were

I do enjoy the dynamics of dressing rooms like, they spent most of the year together, so cracks will appear, Watson and Clarke didn't get along did they

This current England side is very unusual as they are all such great mates, sometimes maybe that doesn't help you as you need an edge. But this one has a lto from similar backgrounds, similar ages etc

I think its one of Cook's best things as captain, created an environment where lot of young players could come in and feel welcome.

Warne is undoubtedly bitter he was never made Australia captain. He should look in the mirror, off the field scandals, drugs bans and regularly outspoken and out of shape, no wonder the captaincy went elsewhere.

Agree with the Wimbledon caper god that was embarrassing. Steve Waugh s idea.

Vic Marks bringing out a book soon, be buying that, love him

You should read his account of the bookmaker thing

It’s fuckin ridiculous, funny.

Him n Waugh were doing it for ages. He goes on like he just talked innocently to this nice guy from Sri Lanka once n got caught without realizing it

Aye, just casually met a random bloke in a casino one night who offered him thousands of dollars as a little gift, and then continued talking to this random bloke for ages completely innocently before international cricket matches, and this was in the age before smart phones and social media really took off as a way of contact.

But Warney did no wrong
