Absolutely. These are professional referees. Surely there should be a standardised form of unambiguous communication between them. Other professions manage it so why not them? Shockingly amateurish.
 
At a wild guessI’d say the VAR officials weren’t concentrating on the game at that point and maybe missed the chance to assess for offside? They need sacking if it was human error

By and large I’m OK with VAR, people have a moan but aside from the occasional thing like yesterday it’s pretty much taken away the arguments about offside

My entire life, people have been saying "the standard of refereeing needs to improve". With VAR the standard has improved, it just isn't a perfect system because at the end of the day there are humans operating it and humans make mistakes.

It's still better than not having it.

As has already been pointed out on this thread, the linesman flagged for offside, so without VAR it still wouldn't have been a goal. People would just have been rightly slagging off the linesman instead of the VAR.

Also, just because something's imperfect, doesn't mean it isn't a worthwhile improvement on what came before.

Cars aren't perfect. You can die from car crashes, kill other people in them, take wrong turns, drive to the wrong town entirely, they can break down.... so, should we get rid of them and go back to horses? Of course not.

VAR can’t intervene because they’ve got a ‘don’t undermine the ref’ mentality rather than get w correct decision.

This clear and obvious error nonsense is another issue, it’s about saving Dave if officials rather than correcting them

Strange post and strange comparison….

My final point to you would be that I think this kind of thing works tremendously well in cricket or rugby and I’m all in favour of it. It isn’t perfect there either, but it works. I’m also all for goal line technology. However, the effect that it has had on the game has been overwhelmingly bad. Look at the level of discussion around it. Look at how it has completely messed up the interpretation of handball for example.

We have very different views on it. Have a good afternoon!

If you don't like the car comparison, pick literally anything humans have ever invented.

Clothes.

Clothes aren't perfect. They can get dirty, they can rip, they don't offer any kind of reasonable protection against bullets being fired at you or asteroids falling on you.

So, should we get rid of clothes and all walk around naked?

The goal line technology is fine. The failure of VAR is that it still relies on human decision making which in many cases is flawed.
Other than goal line technology, VAR needs to be ended. It breaks up the flow of games, stops the spontaneity of celebrations and removes real time decision making by officials
 
The UEFA offside system is as good as automated and runnable in real time as well. The so called sanity check they still have is only because they don’t quite trust the image analytics not to do something bonkers occasionally, but it doesn’t. So use that to give the AR a quick buzz in the ear to raise the flag and we’re back to how it should be but exploiting the accuracy of the tech. The hand drawing of lines nonsense the Prem does just seems to be a jobs for the boys ezercise.
