I'll be honest and say I haven't seen much football that includes VAR, but I saw that decision live yesterday. Its a disaster if that is what the rules of football are now.Another good weekend for VAR![]()

Supposed to end all arguments in football yea rightAnother good weekend for VAR![]()

VAR was (apparently) supposed to get better this season...it seems to have managed to somehow get worse!
Its spoilt football.
VAR isn't the problem. The change in the interpretation of the handball law is the problem. What it's done is to bring us into line with the interpretation used in the rest of Europe. La Liga had 3 times as many handball penalties last season than the PL.
But the recent law changes have been necessitated by VARVAR isn't the problem. The change in the interpretation of the handball law is the problem. That's utter nonsense. We are the problem. The bullshit that's been spouted about refs for decades and micro analysis of every decision is the reason. We are moving towards rules that will negate any need for interpretation.

IFAB should be told to GTFThey've applied in Europe for a number of seasons now. IFAB wanted uniformity across leagues.
I didn't see much over the weekend but I think VAR has actually worked better and quicker this season. The thing that's wound me up is the handballs but that is just in line with the way it's being adopted not the way VAR is dealing with it.VAR was (apparently) supposed to get better this season...it seems to have managed to somehow get worse!

And that is a silly thing to do, the English game, the Italian game and the Spanish game have all been based around different types of games, a foul in the Spanish league is not always a foul in the premier league, if they want to game to be played the same way the world over then if we get back to the premiership I worry for the fans as it will drive people away, I’m not going to sit and wait on var decisions every game, I would rather watch the highlightsThey've applied in Europe for a number of seasons now. IFAB wanted uniformity across leagues.
It’s good that at the end of this rules will be interpreted less and at the whim and “favour” of referees. It will soon settle down when the players realise they can’t get away with sneaky fouls or diving and pretending it’s something else.We are the problem. I’m afraid there has been far less application of the rules in football than any other sport I can think of. Some ex-pro commentators say debatable decisions equal themselves out over the course of a season. Other, of course, don’t. I have seen many a biased referee at Roker Park and the SOL in my years. A simple illustrative example will serve my purpose. How many referees apply an adding up procedure for fouls with most referees not booking players early in games then a flood of bookings are seen later on for lesser offenses? Similarly, how many times have Sunderland fans bemoaned Cattermole often getting booked or red carded early in games because of his reputation? Being booked for simulation is another area of great debate and concern in football but not in other sports who use VAR or an equivalent. It wasn’t at the whim or favour of the referees, it was their honest decision from the one look and one angle they had.
Therefore it was inevitable at the times it would be interpreted diffrently.
It’s not good at all, as this ridiculous crusade for consistency and less interpretation has brought us to where we are and the farcical decisions for handballs we have seen recently.
They should have left well alone.
That's utter nonsense.
It’s not it’s actually spot on, for years all fans and pundits did is twist about honest decisions made by refs from their one view and split second to decide.
Inevitably that would mean diffrent decisions and difffent interpretations, and less consistency.
But no everybody called for more consistency hence we now have pens for ridiculous handballs.

The problem with football refereeing in general is they are their own worst enemies. Some believe they are above the laws of the game. Thus, VAR makes it more consistent and, over time, the behaviour of the players will improve as a result and there will also be less protestations from fans for being unfairly treated. It happens in rugby, cricket and tennis and it technology will continue to develop to the betterment of the game in my view.Apart from the fact its already happening. Nobody has actually suggested a workable handball rule yet that guarantees consistency.
I love how people come up with a solution like 'well it's got to be intentional, or it's got to be hand to ball' thinking that this would get even close to consistency. The only solution left is to tell defenders it's their responsibility to avoid letting the ball hit their arm and if it does its a penalty. Stupid rule but there's your consistency!
Literally every fan base bemoans bias against their club. They hate us, we're a small club, we're a big club and the ref is trying to show he's not intimidated etc.
Football fans have behaved like babies for years when it comes to referees. They expect every decision to go in their favour and if they don't, they're shit. Look at the penalty awarded to Hume this weekend. It was 50/50 but you can guarantee Peterborough fans will be claiming it was a disgrace whereas most on here claim it absolutely should've been given.
Refs are now looking at the pitch side monitor and people are still not happy !!!The problem with football refereeing in general is they are their own worst enemies. They'll get used to it just like in cricket and other sports. At the end of the day, with the money in sport, an incorrect, biased or unfair decision could cost one side many thousands, hundreds of thousands or, with promotion and demotion between the top two football leagues, even countless millions of pounds. VAR is here to stay and is more defensible in court than than the slower eye of the officials.Refs are now looking at the pitch side monitor and people are still not happy !!!

VAR is here to stay. It will settle down and further clarity will be determined following a period to review. I don’t have a problem with that. Just compare rugby with football and the levels of respect given to the officials. There’s a massive difference and I believe part of the reason is due to more consistency in the of application of rules with VAR as an important tool in this endeavor.
