It could be the clearest error ever from a certain angle but hey ho we'll just let that slide eh. Yep that will work FFS![]()
They only want it when it suits. If Portsmouth got a goal against us that was this much offside they’d be losing their minds
What size margin is small? What would be your cut off point? And if it was 1cm over the cut off point, what then? After watching today’s game between Coventry and Man U I can’t but wonder what exactly is the point of var and its actual use. Yes I get goal line technology where you can see a ball clearly over or not over the line for goal decisions, and when there are pena;ty claims be it handball in which is it a case of ball to hand or hand to ball. Did a player dive or was he fouled,,,was it in or outside of the penalty box etc etc etc,,,but where offside is concerned its a case of a certain part of your body being offside or not and that could literally be a toe as in the case today. I genuinely believe after seeing the decision given by var that it needs looking into. Yes there is a case for offside just being offside, but when the margins at inches or in this case probably a centimetre at best, you have to ask the question of who gains the advantage. That ball clipped over the top was always going to have the Coventry player getting on the end of it, so I would say in such cases where the margin is so small then why don’t they place the attacker in the same position on the line as the defender and ask if an advantage would favour the attacker and of it does then he is onside. It wouldn’t take long to make that call I don’t think.
I’m a little bit bored of this now to be honest, it’s not courtWhat do you mean by accountability?
You mean it gave the correct decision ?
I suppose it was far better when the likes of Lampard's "goal" against Germany was not given or Henry's blatant handball knocked Ireland out . It was far better then .
This, you're onside or offside. It is. His foot is ahead
You can argue that there needs to be a margin of error, but as the rule stands he’s off
Find by you. But you know and I know someone would pause it and draw lines and show it was offside. And the pundits, coaches would moan about itAnd that would have been fine by me. It was a close call either way.
I know. I even said as much a couple of pages back in a post you gave a like to.Find by you. But you know and I know someone would pause it and draw lines and show it was offside. And the pundits, coaches would moan about it

As others have said if VAR wasn't a thing the linesman would likely have flagged anyway
If I remember right before VAR the contentious offsides were usually goals which were flagged off but weren't .
I'm offering solutions or suggestions to solve the massive issue with var... That it goes into minute detail on super slo motion replays for 4 to 5 minutes to arrive a decision. It needs to stop. That offside, unless it automated, the VAR refs should have 5 seconds to say 'on' or 'off'
You don't need 50 replays and coloured lines. Just watch the footage in real time. Once. If he's clearly off then say so. If it's marginal and you can't say for sure, then stay with the on field decision. It's quick and decisive and means VAR would rarely get involved
I wouldn't. I'd rather lose an FA cup final to a goal that was a toenail offside but not flagged , than accept var is good for the game

We've had one this season, with VAR , where the Liverpool lad was on side by 5 yards and car called it offside
Var is no better than on field refs ..we've gained nothing
second only to sky for the state of football in this country,it's bloody shambolicSay what you want its ruined football. Hopefully it doesn't stay around forever and branch into the championship. What a joke every single match I watch
Two things I think they could get right.Say what you want its ruined football. Hopefully it doesn't stay around forever and branch into the championship. What a joke every single match I watch
People are getting confused again.
Fouls are different to offsides.
If a ref makes a decision and VAR thinks he has got it wrong the ref will be asked to have another look.
With offsides there is no judgement or asking an official to have another look. It will simply look at it, and show if it's on or off.
That Sky which has made our league the biggest , most popular , richest and most competitive league in the world . The one that has enabled the best managers and the best footballers to join our league and given us the best stadia and some of the best academies producing the best England prospects most of us have seen . That Sky ?second only to sky for the state of football in this country,it's bloody shambolic
Those images are all taken at different times mind.
How do we know which one is the 'right' one?
This is the VAR image of the frame before when the ball is 'touched' but without the thicker VAR red and blue lines. You only have to look at the gap near the linesman compared to his head to get a better perspective of what the gap could have been and it's not 1mm, nor is it a toenail, it's a clear gap. There is judgement in offside.
A judgement needs to be made on exactly when the ball was passed.
Correct descion stuff Coventry
This. Its rather obvious tbf. Or should be.Its been like this for years now. Why are people getting all arsey about it now. Being just offside is the same as been miles offside. Both are offside
