VAR has ruined top level football.

As opposed to…. This?

Forest literally publicly called the VAR a cheat yesterday.

I don't care what changes we make to officiating. We can get the best trained refs from around the globe, the best technology, rules written up by the most respected people in the game and we'd still be listening to the same stuff about corrupt, inept officials and inquiries into 'the state of the game'. The only one enduring constant that will never go away is the endless moaning about decisions.

10 years, 50 years, 100 years from now there will be complete acrimony and outrage about officiating. I'm staggered that anyone would think otherwise. People will always hate officials. Why? Because they can't accept an impartial agent making decisions that affect their teams.

Aye. But supposedly VAR has taken that away.

But It hasnt. Its made It all worse. Just seen It now. Madrid Barça. Ita a mess

Devastated. Robbed football of one of the greatest moments in the competition's history.

A 50/50 decision given because they've drawn the line over the United player's foot.
You weren’t robbed. The decision was correct, it wasn’t 50/50 it was offside.
That said, I’m all for sacking VAR off completely and just have goal line technology. It’s sucking the game dry when you can’t celebrate a goal in injury time of a cup semi until VAR has checked. Just go back to what we had and accept that mistakes will be made by refs but some spontaneity will be back for the supporters.

The cats out the bag now marra. Imagine the uproar if a offside goal wins a game?

People just can't get there heads around people may have different opinions to them. You can put ten referees in a room, show them an incident and five may think one thing while the other five may think something else and all ten refs can be correct depending how they've seen the incident.
You could have 10 refs on the field and they could see it differently. Some differently simply because they interpret a debatable incident differently but some will also be due to the unique viewing angle. This is what some people don't appreciate when they call refs out for missing decisions, yet they do it all after the luxury of a slow-mo replay from numerous angles and not knowing what it's like to be in among it all and usually while moving around.

I don't know as I'm not a ref though I have done it a couple times standing at the side for 5 aside. Just playing football and being close enough to the action can make you see things a different way. Proof of this is in normal friendly games between mates when your team mates admit the ball hit them when going out for a throw/corner or that they saw it from their view better than I did when the ball was ower the line or not etc.

Pleased I don’t go anymore, when you can’t celebrate goals until someone in a studio miles away has spent 5 minutes checking it.
I can remember going delirious at Camp Nou in 1999 when Ole’s goal went in, imagine thinking ‘oh better wait to celebrate until all the VAR checks are done’

Apparently everyone would be alright with that. We would get 'we need VAR back but done properly this time' and we'd be back to where we are now with fans spitting blood because they didn't get all the decisions they want.

The sport we all grew up with and loved has gone, unfortunately. From.Var favouring the big money clubs, then clubs who are state owned and the blatant cheating on the pitch has ruined the game. I'm nearly 52 so I'm pleased I saw football in it's purest form. I honestly dread to think where it goes from here.
Totally agree mate

The beautiful game has been spoiled by VAR, money, Greed, play acting and cheating players

Its not a sport any more

Said it to death on here but I guarantee any person on here having a go at Sunday league reffing would very quickly understand that you have to guess a good 15% of decisions. Inevitably you will get a shit load wrong and you'd be getting a tonne of abuse. It's even more pronounced at efl level. Anyone on here reffing an efl game would be getting a police escort after 10 minutes. Nobody cares about respecting the ref. Some have the intelligence to realise he's just the pantomime villain but most take it too far and spout shite constantly even when the ref is justified in his call. I really hope the refs strike soon. Can't come soon enough.

Most important people in football (for me) are those that spend their hard earned travelling the country (or Europe for some). Anything that sucks the life out of the game for them needs binning.

Hard to disagree. The obsession with money does it for me

Are people really saying we should ignore offsides because they want a spectacle or exciting moment? For that matter we could change the offside rule to allow offsides if it's only inches...

VAR isn't the problem, it's the incompetent refs who can't use it properly. Pretty much all sports have it but it's only footy that can't utilise it properly.

Part of the problem is football fans. In other sports, if the video footage shows a very tight call, by mms, to make a decision, its accepted. In football you get people kicking off saying "it's only a fanny hair" etc.
