RTG Uploading images from your phone to Gallery

When I use the "insert image" icon with this link (spaces for viewing purposes) h t t ps://i.imgur.com/C8kqwgE.jpg it doesn't work, it says image cannot be loaded from the passed link - I think it means pasted link.

and when I try to do the same using the "media" icon I get this, which is kind of nearly what I want but not.

Is there a reason why, am I doing it wrong ?
I'm not sure.

Perhaps @Roger may be able to help.

Or the photo comp guru @peachy

It should be okay now.

There are 2 background jobs that run periodically to delete images and albums. The one to delete albums doesn’t run very often and in your case you hadn‘t deleted individual images, but complete albums.

I have ran the album deletion job manually now, so you should have your default storage allocation back. Let me know if that isn’t the case.

If you want more storage you can upgrade your account either using the contributor or enhanced gallery options.

Can you sort this for me again - as far as I can see there is still no option to delete individual images after you select them, so I have deleted my album, but my storage space still needs flushing out.

For info, I have changed some of the settings around uploading images today and reduced the size of the final images that will be stored.

When I looked at some of the recent images where people were complaining about storage being full, I could see that the images being stored were massive as they were generally direct copies of the original image on peoples phones, and obviously phones have sensors with huge numbers of megapixels these days.

When the uploaded image is around 5MB you don't get to store many in your 10MB allocation!

It will still make sense for people to resize and compress the quality of their images if possible before uploading. But if you don't do this, all jpg images will now be re-sized after uploading to a maximum of 2000px wide or tall (still plenty good for displaying on the web).

This won't currently affect existing uploaded images, only new ones you upload from now.

Not sure, because we as mods have different permissions.

If you select 'your media' and there is a box in the top left corner of the thumbnail of the image you wish to delete, then tick that box and select the 'delete' option from the drop down menu.

Failing that, let me know which image/s you want deleting and I'll remove it/them.
Hi, I was just practising posting photos, and have ended up with nine posted. I intended just to delete them, but when I press the square in the top left of the image it just adds a tIck, but no option to delete. Can you just delete them all for me please, or tell me what I am doing wrong so I can try it again?
Thank you. ( iPad out of power will check back later)

Images deleted as requested.

Images deleted as requested.
Why can some posters directly upload in the message box and others can’t and have to use an image hosting site?

I thought it was contributor privilege but my post was deleted suggesting this with the reason given that it isn’t true

I've no idea, but it has nothing to do with contributor status.

@RTGAdmin may be able to shed more light.

It has been possible to upload images to this message board direct from your phone or other devices for quite some time now.

From your phone - look for the drop down menu (three horizontal parallel bars) on the far left of the icon bar.

Look for the sub heading 'Media' and click on it.

You will then get a further drop down menu.

From Desktop just click on the Media menu at the top.

Choose 'add media'.

You will then get two options - 'create personal album' or 'add media to existing album'

I'll assume you haven't got an existing album.

Click on 'create personal album'

You will then get the options to upload a file. If you click on this then it should go straight to the folder on your phone containing your images. You should see thumbnails of all of your saved images .

Choose an image by clicking on it and you will see a white tick on a blue background top left of the thumbnail.

Click on 'done' and the image will start to upload to this site.

NB: The maximum image size allowed is 6mb and the dimensions should be no more than 6k pixels x 6k pixels. If the image you wish to upload exceeds these sizes then the upload will fail and you will get an error message. You should use the image editing software on your phone or other device to reduce the size and weight of the file to be uploaded to be within the specified parameters. You can usually check on the size of an image on your phone by clicking on 'show image details' or similar.

Once the image is uploaded you will need to name your new album.

Finally press 'save' and with a bit of luck you should now have an album with a single image saved to this site.

Your newly uploaded image will now require moderator approval. This process is usually pretty prompt but please have a little patience.

NB. For copyright reasons the image must have been made by you and not by a third party and there should be no questionable content. Images that do not comply with the board's T&Cs will not be approved.

Once approved, if you then wish to embed that image in a message on here then go to the camera icon in the top icon bar of the message compose page. On a pc or laptop if you hover over this icon it will show the message 'gallery embed'.

Click on this icon and it will show you a list of options.

Go to 'your albums' and select the required image by clicking on it.

Click 'continue' and lo and behold your image should now be embedded in your message as per the example below:

It's this final bit that I can't get to work.

I have successfully uploaded a picture to my media, in a folder I've called "images". When I go to select the camera, the screen allows the to select the album but that's as far as it goes. I can't see the pictures within the album, or select the one picture I want to post. All it does is post a link to the album. Is this what's meant to happen?

I love the SMB but inserting pictures into forum messages is such an arse on. Why can't there be an "insert image" button which opens up the option for you to select from the files on your phone?

I've just approved one of your images so I suspect you've now sorted out your problems.
