I'm more than happy with who he's supposed to be signing so far, I'd rather be signing young players and loaning old players in an ideal world but beggars can't be choosers, if for less than £3m he can solve 3 positions then happy days, I think Galloway in particular will shine for us, he's impressed every time I've seen him.
Completely agree but unfortunately I think that's as much down to our financial issues. McGeady has a year left in his contract so a loan was unlikely.

It's lazy and suggests ignorance and small mindedness.

You have a point. Would feel better if his knowledge was a bit wider though.

And who says that it isnt wider? Because you, like everyone else on here know fuck all about his scouting knowledge, yet would prefer to cast doubt over it before a ball has even been kicked. Has he been here a week yet? Some of the fuckers on here are laughable
He went for players with known qualities, before anyone else could get them at relatively cheap prices. The other positions will take more time

The two young Everton lads are no risk signings to bolster the squad. Grayson obviously feels they are both capable of performing at this level and we have to trust his judgement.

On a wider point I wonder just how much money he'll have in the kitty for this window ? I can see the sense in bringing in a few loans and relatively cheap signings as we're desperately short on numbers but to buy a couple (and we need at least two) strikers capable of getting you 15+ goals a season even in this league, we're going to have to spend a few quid.

Remember two of Moyes early signings were McNair and Love and at the time we we're told they're both signed with an eye on the future ....

I don't know what some expect. We're saddled with debt, we bring a manager in from Preston who knows the league - do you seriously f***ing expect him to look at a squad lacking in several key areas to go to Bundesliga 2 or something and pick out a load of talents? Every single manager going will try and bring in a few players asap to get things moving, generally ones who are known to them and then suppliment that from elsewhere. People criticising that are ignoring Moyes last season going for Ndong, signing Djilobodji from Chelsea after he starred in the Bundesliga and getting knocked back by about five players in Spain and accross Europe.

But it's ok the Huddersfield manager got some bargains last season from elsewhere, oh would that be the same f***ing country he has extensive knowledge of would it???

No, it's a fact Everton owe us money for Pickford. Hence us going back to Everton for players as basically we are f***ing skint.

It's a fact that if they owe us money they owe us it so it doesn't matter where we spend it as its all just money on a balance sheet. What we may be doing is getting a better deal because of that, though also you're ignoring we probably owed them money for Gibson and Oviedo anyway.

What you're also ignoring is that one of those players was a stand out player for him last season and another was at Preston on loan too. Two players he's already signed for his previous club last season. Clearly more than just about owing Everton owing us money with McGeady..

reckon hes spot on with the "skint" bit

Would you expect him to trust a scouting team he'll barely know or his own judgement?

Good point but surely their role is also to "sell" players to a manager who they are confident will help improve the first team. Perhaps they have done and we have made offers but we rarely sign a gem.

Pienaar
Gibson
Oviedo
Mcgeady
Galloway
Browning

Koeman must be pissing himself

We have negotiated a good loan deal for them.
1. If we fail to gain promotion we have to buy them at 5mill each
2. If we win promotion they return to their club with a 'no buy' agreement.
I think Everton will want Galloway back either way. He is here to get games.

perry sums up this quite well read his post above

Yes. But managers have that much time on their hands there's no reason why they shouldn't have extensive transfer knowledge of several other leagues outside the UK.

I can't help but think we've appointed a "buy British" type msnager. The true bargains, although more risky are generally sought abroad.

Not rocket science is it, we need to move more players as although many have had a 40% wage reduction, according to Bain we've had a 58% reduction in income. Selling Pickford and moving on Borini, Defoe leaving only eases that slightly. We need to move more players like Lens, Kone, Khazri etc who are big earners and we simply cannot afford to keep more than a handful of at this level.

As for dealing with Everton though - two of those players the manager had last season, we were always going to go for McGeady regardless of where he played. Maybe we're getting a better deal because of the Pickford deal or maybe like we've done in the past with Liverpool and prior to that Spurs once you're dealing with a club often it makes it much easier to approach them and set up deals. Also getting those two young players out on loan at a club like us probably benefits Everton in terms of knowing how they'll adapt to it as much as it may benefit us.

Trust mate and track record. They'll be pretty much none of either at the moment. Plus some who have been recommended may need the manager to see them once or twice so he can say yes or no and they wont have played so it would be totally based on trust or videos.
