I wasn’t really a football fan until 14 when my dad took me to a game. I used to play champ manger before I went to any games. Was more a gamer as a kid, then fell I love with the actual game when I went to Sunderland matches. Loved Roker Park and still miss it. Got a season ticket at the end of the season Peter Reid took over and went for quite a few seasons. Saw the Quinn and Phillips era. Me and my dad stopped going when I had other priorities, job, Mortgage kids etc. I still watch the games and love the club. I still say Sunderland created a bigger bond between me and my dad. Football was very different then. Sadly he passed in 2011 but the memories I have will always stay with me.

If I am being honest (and it's an age thing with me), I go to the match more to spend time with my son and grandson rather than having great designs on winning things. I hope we are successful, but it wont break my heart if we are not. If my family didn't go then I think I would walk away, if the Saudi's (or any other shitty country) bought us I think I would also walk away.
 
I love Sunderland AFC far too much. Don’t go out of my way to watch other teams matches whether it be Premier League or any other level, but will watch them if I’m doing nowt else and fancy it. Can’t ever imagine me not being a season ticket holder at SAFC though, it’s just in my DNA and it’s the camaraderie side of following my hometown team and the same team as me dad, rather than ever hoping I see a successful team.
 
I’ve travelled the world with England and now that has stopped

I still have a season ticket with Sunderland and do a few away games but never used to miss games home or away

no longer bother with football on tv or even keep up with other leagues when in the 90s I would watch as much as I could I feel too many games on tv is a bad thing.

Other than Sunderland i could not really care anymore

I had to give up my season ticket a few years ago as I no longer have anyone to look after my disabled daughter and I have missed it a lot less than I thought I would - being absolutely shit since I stopped going probably played a big part mind.

I've turned my back on God but never family or football 😯 or sport in general

Out of interest, why did you Jack England travel in? It's not something I've done (other than World Cup finals games abroad) but imagine it would be good to do.

Did you get sick of it?

Im not far off tbf.

People at work try to chat to me about PL football or CL etc and im really not interested.

Sunderland is the only thing that gets my pulse racing really
 
I’ve not watched prem games for years, just not interested. Other than watching us live or on tv i don’t bother with it other than maybe euros / world cup

I don’t watch any football other than the lads - used to be obsessed and watch everything that was on

Now I get more pleasure watching F1, box office boxing and the odd cricket game.

if it wasn’t for Sunderland I wouldn’t watch football at all
 
Haven't turned my back on it as such, but massively reduced how much I watch.

3 years ago I'd watch a Premiership match whenever they were on, as well as any Champions League and Europa football, all England games, Match of the Day and go to most Sunderland home games and 3-4 games as guests/hospitality a season.
Can't remember the last time I watched Match of the Day. Probably watch one or two full Premiership games a month, half of England qualifiers and friendlies and rarely go to the match, even turned down free hospitality offers.

Can't really give a reason to be honest, possibly linked with us becoming increasingly poor.
 
I've all but turned my back on all football, except SAFC.
I rarely watch MoTD (possibly around 6 times, in the past 10 years) and I have just about zero interest in Premier League football, and have not watched a live televised PL game from beginning to end, for years.
I have no real interest in Champions League and UEFA cup games, nor can I be arsed with international games, except for World Cup or Euro Championships finals games.
I used to be a huge fan of La Liga games, but have no interest in those games, nowadays.
 
Live away, so rarely have the opportunity go anyway. But now am not interested in MOTD, PL, CL, or any other football excluding Sunderland or to a lesser extent England.
Can't remember the last time I saw a full game not involving us or England, and didn't bother watching England last night.
The game is so far removed from what I grew up watching in the 70s.
One season, whilst still at school, saw every single game, home and away, Cup
etc and even hitch hiked to mid week friendlies at Scunthorpe and Hull on school nights.
It was different and much more dangerous. But even though Liverpool won most competitions, or so it seemed, QPR finished 2nd, Forest and Villa won the league and EC, Derby the league and you knew that your team always had a chance. We won the Cup with 4 Scots and 7 Englishman, I know that the remaining two Scots live in Sunderland now, a few of the local lads haven't moved too far away almost 50 years on.
Contrast that to how many PL players actually have any affinity to the area/club that they play for.
Tbh, the only game that I really enjoy going to is against the mags, as it means a lot to both sets of fans, but not the players quite so much. Now, the hypocrisy up the road is even starting to take the fun out of that.
Football sold its soul a long time ago, but I'm glad I stood in the Roker and Fulwell before it happened.

Exactly how I see it.

I have finite income so I have to pick my entertainment. I know if I go to see a play at a theatre for the same price, for example, I'm guaranteed entertainment.

On the other hand, I've been to plenty of games we have won, where I've been soaked, freezing and frankly bored stiff.
 
I've no interest in anything other than SAFC.

Watching England in the euros was like I was from another planet. I only knew 2 maybe 3 of the squad. I did enjoy the tournament though.
