Trouble again

They parked the bus down the back lane where the bus depot was. Tried to venture into the terminus around half 12 ish. Met at the door with pool cues the lot, ran back over the bridge, they got smashed to fuck.last season at Roker that was. Escorted from the town over to RP, sheepish as fuck we were into them again after the game outside the New Derby . f***ing hate Forest me like
Scabs and wanking the Mags off. Vile club.
I have talked about this before mate. There was actually two buses full that got chased from the terminus. It was very embarrassing for them. Wonder why that dickhead boatsy fella didn't mention it in his book? I agree about forest. Very strong dislike for them from me.

That's exactly how I remember it.

I also recall loads of Sunderland piling out of the Clockstand paddock into the Fulwell to have a go at the Mags.

I'll never forget feeling physically sick at the sight of dozens (I'm not exaggerating) of fans leaving the Fulwell with blood streaming out of terrible head wounds

They were lead along the cinder track (as it was called then) in front of the Main Stand to below the Roker End terrace, where in those days the St John's Ambulance team was stationed.

There was a photograph on the front page of the Echo the next day (match was played on Good Friday) of all the weapons that were thrown over the wall of the Fulwell, which included hatchets and knives.

The level of violence that day was unbelievable and is indelibly printed on my mind.

Found this:

However, the fact that the 100th derby game ended 1-1 wasn’t the main talking point. Once more crowd violence made the headlines, with the Daily Mirror reporting prior to the game that a “Skinhead Soccer Armoury Is Seized”. This was in reference to a discovery by an inquisitive policeman of a stash of weapons that had been thrown over the wall of the Fulwell End by Sunderland soccer thugs, to be used before, during and after the fixture with Newcastle.

The armoury consisted of more than 50 weapons, including bottles, knives, spikes, carving forks, scissors, chisels, hammer heads and lead piping. The scheme had become unstuck because of the vigilance of a police Panda car driver who became suspicious when he saw a group of about 12 youths bunched by the wall. He pulled up and the youths, who were wearing Sunderland red-and-white scarves, ran off. The policeman then searched inside the ground and found the sackful of weapons.

Chief Superintendent Ronald Kell, Sunderland’s divisional commander, said later: “It was really a horrific collection. In the wrong hand they could have caused considerable damage and injury. The youths must have known that they would be searched at the turnstiles and so decided to try to smuggle their armoury in.”

Another police officer said: “The oddest item was a wooden potato masher, which had been carved to inflict damage when thrown.”

Other weapons, including studded belts and bicycle chains, were collected at the turnstiles when police “frisked” youths as they entered the stadium.

Before the match, teenaged Newcastle United fans invaded a supermarket. When they could not get into a cafe upstairs, they began hurling tins of food about. Five windows were broken. Furthermore, a group of 300 Magpie fans threw bricks and smashed 30 house and shop windows on the way to the game; they also overturned a car and fought running battles with the Sunderland supporters in the streets outside.

I have read summit about Clark saying they got caught out. Can't remember where though. He said the bus was full of young sunbed boys that day and it wasn't their mob, the wanker.. the bus I seen parked up was a double decker, so had about 75 on it.

And another bus further down. I remember being outside the demi when the coppers escorted them back over the bridge, I couldn't believe the amount of them that had been chased by about 10-15 fellas from the terminus. They felt absolutely shit. Heads down, shuffling past. Very funny for us though!

I saw something similar at Boro in 97’ (the league cup game when they tried to kill our first team on the A19)

A dad with two kids (probs both under 10) was coming out of the ground in front of us and some cowardly shite knocked him out. His two kids were hysterical

Boro were absolute scum that evening and anyone in Sunderland colours was deemed fair game.

Since then, the only club Ive openly seen attack families (inc lasses) is Coventry at the SOL.
Your lot had put the windows through on the Boro disabled supporters bus a couple of weeks before at the league game at your place. That was never going to go down well and then when we drew you in the League cup there was bound to be all sorts of bother

We were in the bottom right of the Fulwell looking at the Roker End standing in front of Big Al (The Bear) and coins were raining down on us, we went to the kiosk at the back at half-time and could see the mags (wo had got in early) had took pretty much the whole end.

They might have closed the turnstiles when fighting broke out in the queues and just inside the turnstiles - a lot of Sunlun had to watch from the Roker End.

This was the Derby of the infamous cement bags of weapons being thrown over the wall of the Fulwell.
Wasn't just a cement bag

It’s always the women and children

I do think your comment is trotted out quite a bit when it’s probably not true, but when lasses and kids have been targeted it should be called out.

As I posted earlier, Boro in 97’ was utterly pathetic. From arriving at the Riverside, Boro didn’t discriminate, and sadly women and kids were on the receiving end. A few years after the event I was taking to a lad from Boro while away with England, and even he acknowledged it wasn’t acceptable what happened and found the actions of a sizeable minority embarrassing - especially given the deemed reputation they had at the time

Another example I’ve already used was Coventry a few seasons back at the SOL. The cowards were pilling off buses and charging into families outside the turnstiles. They didn’t give a shit that kids when being pushed to the deck or crushed against walls.

With regards to the Newcastle incident being discussed on here in the late 60’s/early 70s: given the fact you had arseholes in the home end, it’s highly likely that innocent women and kids would have been caught up in it. If fights are kicking off, I doubt your lot would have been too concerned who was being hit

As I’ve just posted bud, what happened that evening when far beyond a bit of bother. I’m not condoning our actions at the SOL mind

Tbf mate, for years we had very little problems (with the exception of Boro and Man Utd). The problems started when we were relegated and we started to give big allocations to tinpot clubs.

Make no mistake though, if objects are chucked on Sunday, people will lose their shit in the North Stand.

Out of curiosity, I’ve just checked the boro website and says nothing about coins etc being banned.
I was talking to a Boro supporter the other day and I think they have been provided with a list of prohibited items, maybe sent out with tickets. She certainly knew that they aren't supposed to take coins etc in.

Fair points, I’ve seen a fair bit of bother over the years but I’ve never seen anyone whack a lass or a kid. I’d like to think most lads would consider that well out of order but I’m sure there’s plenty of arseholes who ignore that ‘code’.
Seen kids look terrified before as burly blokes are getting radged around them.

Boro 1997 I was 16, bricks and alsorts getting thrown over the top of the buses separating fans - coppers just laughing, and stopping sunderland fans from retaliating, will never forget that.
Also remember Yates (i know i know, my dad liked the place at the time) in Sunderland being trashed a few years later, as soon as we walked in the place was divided in 2 halfs, tables and chairs ended up flying everywhere.
Think it could be tasty on Sunday around that area, theyll be a fair few of them up early doors I reckon

The more you say that normal items such as cash can't be taken into a match, people will try their best to get round the ban. And even if they don't have coins there's nothing to stop other items from being thrown down.

Most of the idiots hoying shite down will be acting on the spur of the moment. If someone is tapped enough to premeditate throwing missiles onto a crowd 30/40 meters beneath them there’s not a lot can be done in all fairness.

I hope I’m wrong .

I’ll be stunned if nothing comes down.

I honestly believe there won't be any trouble whatsoever.
The tickets only went to the hardcore of fans that have been to the majority of away games and they aren't the types to through either coins or windmills outside.

The hardcore hoolies won't have got tickets and I doubt the police would let them anywhere near a SR postcode if they try to get to the game.

It is true about the disabled supporters bus but i mentioned it as an explanation of why things were so bad that game rather than as a justification so sorry if it came across like that.

Nothing sent out with tickets and not had any email or seen anything on the website

This.

You needed to be a season ticket holder for at least 2 years and have been to about 20 away games over those 2 seasons to have had any chance of a ticket.

I know, it's a nonsense response to the problem.

Agreed, but I think they need to be seen to do something. Make no mistake, if objects start to come down on Sunday, there will be hell on
