Too soon for Henderson to come back?

Pretty much nailed it, it's just completely wrong and it's completely on him. He can't blame anyone else but himself and he still to this day hasn't apoligised for it, just apoligising for those that he hurt which are two very different things.

They don't though, they don't promote videos saying they want the World Cup to be in Saudi Arabia in 2034 etc as linked above, that's the issue people have with it. Like personally I have no issue with any Newcastle player from a Saudi point of view as they just play football. Most football owners are bent in some form of way, Chelsea and Russia in the past - for example. That video is well above playing football though.
So Barcelona DIDN’T promote Qatar Airways? Man City don’t have any promotions of Abu Dhabi. Haway man

This is what some seem to be missing and trying to justify it by comparing Joe Bloggs going over there to fill his boots. The big difference here is the rainbow laces etc and saying stuff like this and Henderson already being a mega millionaire that Joe Bloggs wouldn't have been.

“This is always an occasion that makes me especially proud to be club captain because I could not be stronger in my belief that the values we are celebrating – unity, togetherness, inclusion – could not be more in keeping with those of our club and our city.

“I have regularly worn rainbow laces and today will be no exception because this kind of visible support can only have a positive impact. It also sends the powerful message that football is for everyone and the more of us who can take this message back into our homes, workplaces and daily lives the better.

“The more we can understand, the more we can learn and the more we can stand together on issues like this, the more we will move towards the kind of inclusive society that is more welcoming of everyone. “Football has its part to play and, as I said, I couldn’t be more proud to play a small part of my own.”

Yet he went to Saudi claiming he was going there to grow football. His announcement video had his pride coloured Captain's armband greyed out. So much for growing football as he ended up being a puppet for Saudi coming out with this crap yet look at the tweet above about Qatar. Completely sportswashed due to greed as he could have still got decent money anywhere in Europe.

Exactly. He wasn’t the usual footballer regarding sound bites, he actually put himself forward as a champion of the marginalised and was the one England player to actually speak out ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
Going to Saudi proved it all to be hot air.

You mags are outing yourselves earlier and earlier. Its like shooting fish in a barrel.
I'm a Sunderland fan.

It's just hypocritical to fuck though.

Don't get why CEO's of multi nationals, who get paid more than a lot of professional footballers do, don't get the same condemnation from the footballing public for doing business with Saudi.

The UK government literally sell weapons to Saudi Arabia, who are using such weapons to commit attrocities in Yemen, but aye let's pile in on Hendo because he went to set future generations up for life.

Like don't get me wrong, I'm not fan at all of Saudi's or how they're trying to sports wash everything but we've been doing it for years. To deny that is just complete ignorance. It's just mental that Hendo and footballers get so much stick when we probably need to look internally before being so critical.

Man City and PSG are critisised aswell though? Promoting an airline, isn't the same though.

No player, as far as I'm aware, has ever personally come out with support of the UAE. If they did then they're going down the same path.

It is when it’s state owned mate. Tourism, airlines, World Cups, they’re all for the same goal.

Just a matter of months ago the vast majority of people were (rightly) calling out his decision to take the cash from a state owned Saudi club. The equivalences were made to NUFC. If he returns to Sunderland, and defences are put forward for Henderson, the moral high ground is ceded.

And seemingly, it’s starting prior to there even being substance to the story of his return.
Looks like it’s all easily forgotten, if he signed and said he made a massive mistake going there, he might get ppl back onside, tho I think neither is likely

Keep digging.
Beckham sold his morals for £125m didn't he?
Didn't have many to start with. His doc on Netflix makes him look like a right weirdo
