Tony Mowbray Rumour

I think it is far from done. Last time they interviewed probably about 6 or 7 for the job. This time it will be less and done much quicker but there will be more than Mogga in the frame.

Decent appointment imo, knows the league well and arguably overachieved at Blackburn.

Edit: genuinely shocked at Neil leaving though - you’ve got more momentum and long term potential than Stoke and probably lower short term expectations. Seems like an odd move to me so is clearly motivated by money.
Hates us

I remember sitting with a can of beer after our away win last weekend thinking to myself…this time next week I bet Alex Neil will have left for Stoke and we would be on the brink of appointing Tony Mowbray as our new manager. I seen it coming a mile off.

I will say this about Tony Mowbray:
  • He was a very steady and committed footballer
  • He is undoubtedly a gentleman and respectful of clubs and their fans
  • He was extraordinarily dignified and had all of our sympathies when he lost his first wife
  • He is committed to playing fluid, attacking football
  • He has a decent record at this level
  • He likes to play and develop young players
  • He has experienced promotions and relegations
  • He knows the North East well…. This is a big issue with appointing managers here
  • He should be able to advise our central defenders on how to position and defend
  • He won’t be intimidated by our supporters having managed Celtic, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Blackburn.
  • Regardless what we like to think, we are a club in transition and he is still young enough to have that desire to have success
Well put, RM. Plus, his surname ends in 'bray' which, to my mind, carries heavy significance, although of what, I have no idea....

Speakman said today that they had candidates from when they appointed Neil and that they had done due diligence then so wouldn’t need to do as much this time. So is he saying that Mowbray was one of the ones they looked at before appointing Neil because I certainly never heard his name mentioned.

I think Speakman spouts absolute shite.
