Dack was free and far from our worst signing that year- his issues were fitness not quality and Aouchiche was clearly meant to be the replacement for Amad. Dack was meant to replace Pritchard, who ended up staying half a season.

He was poor, but the club was refusing to sign players with experience, this is what you get with freebies- we learnt from our mistakes. But we should be clear, we were better that season with mowbray than without him

Mowbray got us 27 points from 19 games- the rest of the season we got 29 points from 27 games.

Basic mathematics, without our 'poor' form under Mowbray we would have been relegated.

Luckily we learned a lesson in our recruitment and listening to the needs of the manager.

Was fantastic for us at the time. Obviously takes less credit than the likes of the current lot we have & Speakman.

Still deserves credit though. Stuart Harvey too.
 
The club have got so much right the last few years, Mowbray was a key component of us getting a solid footing back in the championship, I just can’t understand that spell where they appointed Ian Beale and parted the clubs arse cheeks for the mags in the cup. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s almost like they had to do it to help them learn what SAFC is.
 
Right appointment at the right time.
Needed to go so we went to the next level. KLD made some daft decisions in his tenure but he’s made some real cracking ones when needed.

I don't disagree with that, but Amad papered over the cracks of us being unable to bring in a striker. Le Bris is the superior manager, but he was also fortunate to start his tenure with Isidor in place.

The nature of Neil's departure could've derailed our progress, but Mowbray raised the bar and was pretty gracious when his time was up.

That's become a sliding doors moment in hindsight. Made the leadership group reconsider what standards they should aiming for.

Our last spell in the Premier League fell apart because we let poor standards fester in the club. Think we learned some very painful but valuable lessons during the Beale era.

The club has done fantastically over the last 5 years but this just isn't true.

There were virtually zero similarities in playing style of any of the Head Coaches this regime have appointed.

We were heading in the right direction by the time he joined, but he established the blueprint of our playing style. A young team playing fast-passing football on the front foot, extremely hard working and not afraid of a battle.

He left the club in a very admirable way too, regularly praising us in the media and therefore ensuring that we didn't lose too much momentum after a underwhelming season.

He helped build Sunderland's reputation as a brilliant destination for ambitious young players, and that might the biggest factor in making last summer such a spectacularly good window.

There are a lot of people behind our current success, but it's rare that a relatively short-lived ex manager has such a positive and long-lasting impact.

His team played lovely footy which I enjoyed immensely
