Tommy Watson

Listening to Kieron Brady earlier on one of the pods and he reckons he's went from £1.5k PW at Sunderland to £60k PW at Brighton.....canny uplift

Seems bizarre to me that they'd offer him 60k, he'd have surely moved for half of that, if not less.

It was suggested the other day that Cairney who plays for Fulham is on £30k p/w. I know he's getting on, but you'd think he'd be on more than Watson.

“Right? You know, he's going from somewhere in the region of a thousand, fifteen hundred pounds a week, which of course gets taxed. So by the time he gets his net pay at the end of each month, it's still a very, very good salary for someone his age, but it's most certainly not life changing.

But by the time he takes to the field, 1 suspect for Brighton's Reserves, he's probably going to be coming home each month with about sixty thousand pounds per week there or thereabouts.”

Just slipped on his words. Clearly meant £15k per week and £60k per month.

Sounds more reasonable

If a player is bought for £10m he'll be getting a very good wage. Probably the same amount spread over the contract. Unless they have low buy out clauses. So that's £2m per season over 5 years. Mepham on a reported 62k

That’s bollocks… does anyone anywhere think that’s even credible.
I’ve no doubt if he was a regular prem player that’s what he might earn
But he ain’t

More like it … even then he’s guessing

No. Every agent knows a club who are willing to fork out a £10M transfer fee, has to be prepared to meet the wages that go with it. £10M players on a decent length contract are in the general region of £50kpw.

It is life changing ! It is a bloody fortune ! I think we have become blasé about the money thrown about in football

Still can’t help but think this whole thing has been to the detriment of all parties.

There was no good reason to announce it early, even if the media gets it, you just flat back it back and say no deal has been signed off, which is the truth as no deal can be signed off fully until the end of the season.

If he had just continued as a Sunderland player who might have been moving on in the summer, I can’t help but feel he may well be having more involvement right now, which would be for the good of all parties.

Brighton announced it. Imagine the reaction if the club was caught lying to its fans.

No way is Watson on 60k a week. Probably less than half that. There’s 3 or 4 players in each club inflate the “average” wage.

they’re not like. Many Mid ranking players in PL teams are on less than half that.

This, the fact that they are willing to pay 10 million for him means they are unlikely to be low balling him on wages. His agent will have negotiated a canny wedge
