Tommy Watson

And in turn it's going to hurt our chances of going up

Any Sunderland fan booing him is thick as pig shit

Don’t agree, his performance Friday was one of the worst I’ve seen from anyone wearing a Sunlun shirt.

If he continues pulling out of tackles and not tracking back (if he gets on the pitch) he deserves all the flack he gets.

Apart from a couple of games against Sheffield United and Stoke he hasn't looked ready for the first team to me. I think his confidence is shot to bits now and he should not be in the team tomorrow, Aleksic needs minutes and surely would offer more than Watson at the minute.

To get the same money for him as Southampton paid for a long term injured Striker whos managed less than 300 minutes in 2 seasons, Brighton must be kicking themselves to have overpaid so much.

I personally don’t think he’s deliberately not trying. I agree he’s been rubbish since he came back and inevitably now he everything he does is monitored like fbi surveillance. He might be struggling to get Upto speed and lacking confidence which isn’t surprising given the stick he is getting.

That being said perception is everything and the fact the deal was announced in the way it was hasn’t been good for anyone really.

Watch him score the winner at the playoff finally at Wembley 😂😂

He was looking good in the game he got injured n'all, among a smattering of late sub appearances where he didnt do much. I think he'll end up a good player imho. I know most disagree, but i think he is gonna be a bit of a star
But them again you blindly support Patrick Roberts…. 😜

He's had two good games for us, he will be no loss at all. Mind if I was his teammate, I'd be flogging him all over the dressing room for some of his recent "efforts"

Watson should be taken out of the firing line by the ahem ‘Leaders’ at the club.
put in the firing line and shot ;)

I don't think we know enough about the situation to say the club were desperate for the money tbh. I didn't think Watson looked right when he came back after the window, but put it down to him having been out and getting back up to speed. But maybe he wanted to go in January, the deal wasn't done, and instead of being professional and getting on with it he ended up letting it affect him. Perhaps the club accepted the bid out with the window, thinking at least it would resolve it and maybe he would then give all his focus on safc until the end of the season knowing it was done.

It's definitely fair to question the decision to play him but any time a player is lucky enough to wear our shirt and looks utterly disinterested they deserve criticism as well. In his case he's a supposed supporter, his PL move and money confirmed and he's got a chance to help us get promoted. To be jogging about like he has been is a slap in the face to everyone at the club who helped get him where he is today and everyone who has sat and supported him from the youth levels up. There's a way to do things and, regardless of what the club could have done differently, he's been utterly unprofessional.

He is only a youngun and I expect as he gets older he'll look back on this episode with regret. And unless his attitude improves significantly he'll look back on it having failed to make the most of his talent. Imagine a lot of the top players with a burning will to win going through the motions like that. They wouldn't even do it in training. Hopefully nowhere near the squad come playoffs and if he is, that's when I'll really question the manager
Great post GG.

As a local lad to not put the effort it in is extremely poor.

Watson and his 2 good games and reminds me of Thomas Butler, who turned it on (for 2 games) at the end of the 2001/2 season, before reverting to being shite.

Be wary of players called Tom, Tommy, Thomas ….. 😜

Him leaving is fine, players leave all the time. Most loved Clarke and he left.

He decided to leave when his teammates (and some actual mates) are solely focussed on promotion, then turns in worse than pathetic performances on the pitch. Too busy twerking for Brighton.

That’s the difference. Clarke gave his all till the end AFTER continually producing for us. Watson had about 2 good games and downed tools.

He’s a little rat and hopefully he rots in Brighton’s academy and a shit load of loan spells before dropping down the leagues.

I mean there's an element of not trying but he's just shit for this level

Not sure what your seeing in his game, but other than 2 half decent performances back in November, he's done absolutely nothing in a Sunderland shirt to suggest he's definitely going to be a top player. He looks like a bang average 18 year old academy graduate that isn't ready for championship football

Brighton or no Brighton he shouldn't be anywhere near our match day squad based on his current ability. And if mundle wasn't injured I suspect we'd hardly see him

Defensively he makes Keiron Brady look like Kevin Ball
