only reason I can think of is the Harte family( Watson included) want to start house hunting , organising daughter job, speak about it etc etc and its easier if they dont have to do it secretly.....another example of thinking of themselves and wanting to pat themselves on the back...

I still dont undestand why an 18 year old wants to leave his home club and goto Brighton when he and the club are on the cusp of better things to come , even if its for more money. He has bought in to the fairytale that has been peddled to him i think

Because that is the nature of football these days, like anywhere money is involved you'll get advisors, consultants, lawyers, agents, etc. As for "established" I assume you mean playing first team football at a professional level, but the problem with that the players will already have interest and contract option/s offered, so in comes the money side which isn't going aawy unfortunately.

It's a Brighton thing - because they're not up against the FFP limits like the rest of the league, they can steal in and get players signed in-between windows when other clubs can't.

I don't really understand why they waited until the end of the window to make their first official bid mind.

Disagree on all of that, I don't think the club will be hoping fans don't want him in the squad. Does it weaken us and make us less likely to go up this season, not too sure, he's got two goals and 0 assists, we aren't in this position because of his influence.
 
Hell do well but end of the day no point keeping a player whos minds elsewhere, shame like but im sure the academy will regurgitate another watson 😂

Must admit, I don't really get on board with this "any of us would move for more money" stance. With most jobs there's no potential downside to taking a higher paying job. Even if the company ends up going bust or whatever you can normally quite easily get another job, so your overall career earnings are almost always improved by taking the money as early as you can.

That isn't the case in football because of how much development matters. A player could be on £5k and move because they're offered twice that and it seems, on the face of it, a great move that we'd all do. But if you end up not playing, sitting in the reserves, going out on loan to places where you don't kick on that might end up being your best contract. Another player might stay on the £5k, play regularly, reach their potential and end up having a career where they make £80k a week for a decade. I'm sure Henderson could have left before he did, and there's no guarantee he'd have gone on to have half the career he ultimately did. There'll be loads of lads who took the money earlier in their career who sit back and wish they'd made a fraction of the money he has.

It's obviously his decision to make, I can understand why you'd take the quick money and, to be fair, Brighton seem a better bet than most in terms of development. But I can also understand people who think it's a bit shan that a supposed Sunderland fan is around the team, at a time when we're developing players well and pushing for the PL and chooses to leave at a very early stage. For most supporters it's pretty unthinkable, regardless of the initial extra money. Understandable when we were a league one basket case paying a pittance, but now I imagine most would want to stay longer and back themselves to succeed financially in the long run.

Also, you wouldn't mention loyalty to a mate who has left Thompsons demolition to sign for Howard Stott because football is obviously a totally different thing. People dream of representing their club, no one gives a fuck what company they drive a digger for

Ffp ended in 2023. Its psr now a completely new set of rules.

Our last 3 months have largely been poor down to a lack of proper left winger since him and mundle had been out. He was looking good before his injury and provided the attacking quality to play in the team. We went back over when he got injured

Well reggie doesnt think Aleksic is better than watson or indeed any of the 1st team otherwise he'd of got more game time.

We went back over after watson got injured as we had no left winger suitable

Yeah, look at Clarke, he said he was happy here but was convinced by an agent to make a move. Probably not as happy now but more money in the bank. I just don't think you can put a price on feeling happy and being part of something hopefully it all works out for him in the future

No, they don't. Handing in a transfer request is really the last resort. It means the player forfeits his sizeable 'loyalty bonus' when transferred, or reaches the end of his contract.

Players rarely say they want to leave publicly, because it is a stupid, stupid thing to do before a move is sorted. They know that if they don't get their move and need to stay at their club, then they will be are castigated by the fans for wanting away. See numerous posts on this thread.

He’s a 18 year old lad, who is going to be making mega money living in the bright lights. Wonder if Harte will speak so fondly when he’s caught dicking about 😂
