Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

He’s played in 15 senior games yet people on here go on like it’s the second coming or summat. He’s bang average at the minute, may or may not improve but £10m is good business anyone who doesn’t see that needs a reality check.
Especially if it's true that we've got a decent sell on percentage. If he does well for Brighton, Chelsea will give them a fortune in a couple of years.

According to the internet(?) Ross Stewart who was sold for pretty much the same fee is on £20K a week. Jack Clarke sold for about £15M is on £25K.

Perhaps Tommy will be on about the same as Ross Stewart?
Tbf those first two went to newly promoted or soon to be promoted sides. Brighton well established side now I wouldn’t be shocked if he was on more than both tbh as they’ve chased him for awhile now and the money has obviously completely turned the lads head.

I agree but the money will not be reinvested
Improved contracts for players who want to stay and we want to keep plus funds for new players in the summer.

Moving the odd player on to teams in the prem makes us more appealing to other youngsters too.
That’s very generous of you

Fair enough, but I am genuinely pissed off with this. I don't see any PL club so persistent as Brighton have been in trying to prise anyone else from us. Really thought the kid had a good couple of years ahead of him with us. We are presumably grateful for £10million - that is small change to Brighton. How the football world has changed.

Young Tommy looks like hes been on the sunbeds since hes come back, proper big time charlie behaviour imo

In all seriousness I'm not too fussed as I think Mundle is better, Watson still very lightweight although time for that to change obviously. He wasn't going to sign a new deal so I find anyone bashing the club over this bizarre. Some of our fans also need to get used to the idea that we will have to sell occasionally. It's a refreshing change having a raft of high value young players courted by other clubs, compared to a few years ago.
Occasionally? We’ve flogged out best player the last 3 seasons now a lad on the up.

I really cant see us getting promotion under this regime at all.

What’s strange too if we knew he wasn’t going to sign a new deal why didn’t we get a deal sorted early in the window and have the £10m to spend to help us get promoted this season? Instead we got a loan in and didn’t strengthen positions we needed strengthening in. Could be looking back at the end of the summer at another massive opportunity missed just like the first playoff season under Mowbray.

It's a good deal with one year left. He's obviously wanted to go for some time, remember how hesitant he was at signing his previous contract.

I actually think it's good news the timing. He knows he's going and an injury can no longer scupper it. Heading into the summer window, we know the deal is done and the money is rolling in. Clarity for all parties is a good thing IMO.

Because they would have had zero intention of spending the money in the window

time will tell if it's good business but anyone who cannot see his potential needs a reality check

To be fair some didn’t expect a top 6 finish under this regime ?
I’m happy to see how the season pans out -at least we are amongst it in a positive way
Would love to take the “kids “ to another Wembley trip
My 9th I believe !!
