Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Young Tommy looks like hes been on the sunbeds since hes come back, proper big time charlie behaviour imo

In all seriousness I'm not too fussed as I think Mundle is better, Watson still very lightweight although time for that to change obviously. He wasn't going to sign a new deal so I find anyone bashing the club over this bizarre. Some of our fans also need to get used to the idea that we will have to sell occasionally. It's a refreshing change having a raft of high value young players courted by other clubs, compared to a few years ago.
Its not the selling ,they do that, its the buying that is the problem.

A few observations.

1 - the timing of this stinks and something about it doesn’t sit right.

2 - disappointed with the lad but if he wants a big pay cheque then so be it. Many of us would make the same choice.

3 - we should only play him now if it’s absolutely necessary. No way should he start any game ahead of an in contract player that needs minutes (e.g Aleksic).

4 - Ian Harte is a C**t

5 - Brighton are a well managed club but it still hurts to sell to a club like that. We’ll come again though. Our time will come.

He won’t be on anywhere near £40k a week mate. Even in the crazy world of the PL, they tend not to give ridiculous contracts to 18 year old lads that have only played 20 games.

He will, however, be on a very nice wage for an 18 year old lad.
According to the internet(?) Ross Stewart who was sold for pretty much the same fee is on £20K a week. Jack Clarke sold for about £15M is on £25K.

Perhaps Tommy will be on about the same as Ross Stewart?

Number 4 is probably the most relevant factor tbh.

Watson is a local lad that has been at the club since he was 6 year old and was immediately rewarded with a run in the first team until his injury. So how exactly this not what's happened?
You typed the text below. SAFC did develop Watson, if he wants to leave then what can the club do? Patto and Neil followed a similar path to the 1st team, so if he had decided to stay then he could have as many appearances in the future.

The club probably were prepared to play him for more than a handful of games. It’s been his decision.

If we can't, or aren't willing, to promote, develop and play talented and promising home-grown players that are dyed-in-the-wool fans of the club for more than a handful of games then what's the f***ing point?

It's the negative effect it will have on the others,
Nowt against Watson but he shouldn't be involved around the team when he is effectively not a safc player anymore

No difference than working a months notice. Won’t make any difference one bit. It’s not like he’s the star player.

What must go up goes down….Brighton bought a solid player at this level I fully expect him to do well but Brighton will find the trap door again one of these seasons
