Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Nah i'm questioning why (in numerous posts) he dosnt want to play for us and have already listed possible reasons.
Yes mundell wants to play and is a decent enough player, i'm not knocking him. But i dont know of scouts swarming all over mundell like they have Watson. Scouts seem to be swarming all over Watson so hes obviously got something special.
I thought we were meant to be on a path to success and had moved on from shipping out hot prospects. Obviously we dont rate him as highly or we just desperate for the coin.
We can’t get too emotional the fact that Watson wants to move to a Premier League club in the same way Hume & Ballard were more than content to stay & progress here.

History is littered with players that were the next big thing & faded into nothing. I can guarantee that scouts are well aware of Romain Mundle. He’s 21 & looking as exciting as Jack Clarke did at the same age.

It's a bit f#cking metal that we're selling players before the season even ends though. Jobe to go next week?

There's absolutely no benefit to releasing this news now....its that piss poor that I'm actually laughing at wtf they were thinking in doing this on April fools of all days!
Because it would filter out anyway. Look at this thread as evidence of that. It draws a line under it. He's signed his contract meaning if he does get injured it doesn't hamper his move either. Its one where either way people old have the opposing view of how it should be handled

Mundle is light years ahead of him and only 3 years older.

He won't even be starting games here unless Mundle is unavailable.

£10m for a Championship player who isn't even first choice is a canny bit of business.

Watson is extremely overrated as things stand IMO.
£10m profit.

Academy FC

We don't, he does. I'd be very surprised if he went full tilt before his big move.
He doesn't, his move has happened he just hasn't got there yet. If everything is finalised it means nothing if he injures himself apart from taking a bit if time to get fit in the new season. Not like he's going to go straight into their first team either

Not sure he’s overrated. He has bags of potential which is what Brighton are investing in. That 10m could be worth a fair bit in a few years or it’s a 10m gamble that didn’t pay off

Probably our first victim of the lack of rotation from Reggie, sat behind mundle until mundle got injured. It’s a decent fee but Watson is absolutely quality.
Victim of Regis? I think he's got a lot thank RLB for! Of course Watson was behind Mundle early doors - Mundle was playing brilliantly. After Mundle's injury Watson's first couple of starts were poor imo, but RLB persevered with him and he came good. And since he's been available again he's come on most games as sub, and was given a start over Mundle! This, despite Tommy not looking up to speed yet.

He got himself straight down there in January before a deal was announced, he’s wanted out why should I want anything else for him? It’s also pretty common that they go chasing the money end up in some premier league u21 team rather than getting 1st team minutes and do nothing else
If someone said to you I’ll triple your wage and give you an opportunity to work for a company who are renowned for developing talent, would you turn it down?
It may be a gamble and he may end up on the scrap heap, OR he could be the next Macallister or Cucurella, to name just 2 players who’ve used Brighton as a springboard to even better things.

It's a strange one. Surely he would wait to see what division we will play in next season before deciding on a move he's been with us since he was 6, play in the premier league with your boyhood club or go to Brighton I know what I'd choose. Money talks though

Only time will tell if it’s a good deal or not. The lad has potential but he has a long way to go if he is to make at the top level.

Obviously there has been glimpses of quality though and Brighton have certainly seen something.

It is strange though that a local lad, who is from a Sunderland supporting family, has been so quick to want to move away.
