Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Meh the kid has only recently broken through into the first team, has 18 months left on his contract is injured and seems to have had his head turned.
Let him go for the right price / deal, I only want players wholly committed to Sunderland to play for us.
But he should look at what happened with Jack Clarke and have a good think on.
It's a pretty shit state of affairs though when a supposed Sunderland supporter choses to leave at the very first opportunity ,when players like Isidor,Rigg, Bellingham, Ballard etc are signing contracts. Makes you think what is the point in the academy? Just to make money
and if true, there's one reason why football is ******
Given his age it's a long time ago as well, makes it even more ridiculous. Some of our players now won't be on that much

I don't think it's fair to write teams off because they don't have a massively successful history.

Ours has been shite for over 50 years and most of our lives and we basically live off glory from pre war.
Lots of southern clubs have an unfair advantage. They shouldn’t be anywhere near the premier league really. Well run yes, but it’s all about the cash now. Same with Brentford, Palace, Fulham, Bournemouth. All above there natural mean position. Players want to live in London and the south and clubs have massive tourist support at the games. It’s rubbish. I live just outside London so I can see the attraction. Half of the people down here are cockney reds (Liverpool and Man U). It’s so tedious. Just means we can’t afford to keep our best young players. When is it going to end

Was reluctant to sign his last contract apparently .. so goodbye and good luck …

Plus he won't be starting games if Mundle is fit.
I think he would, I think he was looking like he was every bit as good as Mundle but with a higher potential.

Massive shame, but at least we don’t have any other players here represented by Ian Harte now. Let’s hope the slimy little twat never darkens out door again.

I've avoided this thread up to now cos I thought it was a lot of posters inexplicably losing their shit but now I see it's almost a done deal.
A few things about this deal that I can't get me head around. Why are we even entertaining selling a home-grown player - a Sunderland fan no less - that's just broken through to the first team and has a handful of appearances? If his current contract's up summer '26 then I doubt we'll be any worse off if we had to do a deal this summer if we can't agree an extension.

When the north east becomes an attractive place to work and live for millionaires, perhaps?

Maybe the club think this is the best we'll get and he's definitely wanting to leave?

You’d have been better off continuing to avoid the thread.

The people are so much better up here

Watson I know you are reading this, I would be in your shoes. Let me impart some wisdom on you...

In 70 years you do not want to be sitting on the balcony of your villa full of regret. Sure you are financially sorted, but money means nothing once you have it, you quickly get used to it and it's just normal. What really matters is what you've done with your life, did you reach your full potential? Or were you just a middling player who nobody really remembers, because you prioritised money over what's best for your development.

You can be a legend here, stick around and help get us promoted, then get your big contract. There is nowhere better in terms of game time and adoration. You could have your own statue outside the sol.

To Brighton fans you are just another piece of meat, they'll expect the world from you and won't be patient. With us you are like a son, we want you to do well as much as you do.

Don't follow the money and material things, it is an empty and hollow way of life.

He can't stop laughing and has sent it to all his mates ... they're howling too.

We would be worse off though. If we didn't go up and he had even less on his contract Brighton aren't going to offer more money are they?

Tribunals often fuck the selling club over. If we're getting 12m I'd say that's best we could have got
