Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Which makes it all the more puzzling we don't seem arsed about giving it a real go and strengthening weak areas now.

Not for me. I see it as the club going after the right players and not always being able to get them. Just about all of the players signed by second division clubs this window wouldn't improve on what we have, and for that reason we shouldn't be buying that quality of player. I'd rather the club wait for the right players than take a gamble on players who are well down their list of priorities.

It could be another example of how modern football works. A combination of agents, player power, money, impatience and greed. To think that a home-grown player makes only 12 appearances for his club at the age of 18 and gets sold. Are we just a factory? We want to see these players shine in a Sunderland shirt, not just be sold at the first opportunity.
How the games changed like.

Back in the day you’d enjoy an exciting youngster for 18 month or so then the vultures would start circling.
Now they can be poached before theyve made the first team.
Been to the academy n u23s can be treat like stars when in reality theyve done feck all really. Shame.

Be interesting to see what happens in the summer of we fall short.

We'll have plenty fees incoming but we'd probably only spend about half of it. Be tough to see us being as strong.

I think it’s common knowledge that Rigg is highly sought after and will command a big fee. He’s a different beast, can play a number of positions, potential to dominate a game, especially as he gains experience and matures.

Bigger contract. There’s no way he goes for less than £30m … however, out of all our players, I hope we keep him for the next 10+ years.

Massive shame for TW, he looks electric, but 18 months left and his counsel is made up of 2 Sunderland hating bellends, we’ve got no option but to push for a big fee and move on.
Who are they?

It wouldn’t be much different if we got promoted, the bigger clubs with bigger budgets would just take our best players off our hands. Sure we would get higher fees but we would need that for the higher wages in the premier anyway.

Realistically would people have him in ahead of Mundle? I think it’s unlikely he signs a new deal, so if he barely gets a look in the rest of the season his value is only going to drop. Best chance of a decent fee and sell on %

If Watson is allowed to leave the club will go some way to undoing a lot of the great work and good standing with fans that has happened this season!!

Not sure I agree with this like. A lot of variables in any transfer especially if he’s after a move and won’t sign a new contract. We may never know exactly what goes on with this so unsure blaming the club is wise

If the fee of up to 10m is correct I have no issue with selling someone who isn’t going to be first choice

I’m not sure? I think his ceiling is higher than mundle hence all the clubs reported to be interested in him. He’s gonna get games we ain’t exactly stacked both him and mundle are finding their way back to fitness. His price won’t change in a few months infact it could go up especially if he agrees a new deal.

I don’t think it will, club almost has to. Sell if the indications are he doesn’t want to sign a new contract. They have to get peak value which Woukd probably be around now. Tge young is badly advised that’s for sure. Agents should be banned in football.. tvink they do a lot of damage to players careers.

I know what you are saying but this will not be how it is perceived by fans. It will appear that we let a tremendous local talent go on the cheap again. The question will be why was it allowed to get to this situation in the first place when we clearly have money in the kitty as the large bids for the likes of Cannon demonstrate?
