What stinks about it. Is it not just people being rational rather than just think everything has to be Sunderland and anything else is wrong. Quick question, if you were a footballer would you leave a probable 6m quid contract on the table just to keep some people on the internet happy?

It is but he’d be well setup if the worst happens

If Prem teams are paying academy players 30k a week then it’s absolutely stupid
 
Sell him and use the money to finance the club etc. player and staff wages, electricity, running the ground and academy
 
Very, very few players are going to turn down a premier league club move regardless of whether they support the lads or not.

It’s a job let’s not forget that.

If someone offered you three times your current salary and a chance to further your career how many, hand on heart could say they’d turn it down ?

I’ve no idea whether Watson will leave or not.

I’d love him to stay but if he goes good luck to him and let’s see who we bring in.

So he’s a bellend for going to a different football club to the one you support. Is Jobe a bellend for signing for us?

That won't be in his decision making thinking.

In the end, you're suggesting that money should be the deciding factor in an 18 year old lad's thinking who's played a few games for the first team. It would be short-sighted.

It's all guesswork anyway, we don't know what's in his mind. For all we know the lad could have no desire to go anywhere, and having a contract with 18 months remaining is not an indication either way.

Yes. They can probably get more money elsewhere and play higher. Both will probably be off come summer if we don't go up.

The lad close to Neil's family on here said it probably depends on if we go up.

Why? Nothing what you said makes any sense at all man. Take your Sunderland glasses off. Again, is jobe a bellend or is it ok because he signed for us?
 
If he wants to leave then get the best price possible for him.

I want him to to sign a new contract here as I think his potential is very high but at the end of the day we need to protect ourselves.

Hopefully those clubs are interested in him and a "bidding war" happens and we use that money to replace him and another position.
 
I think a lot of fans look at players coming and going on the transfer market with blinkers on. Yes Tommy Watson is a local lad and yes we fans would love nothing more than to see this lad blossom here at his hometown club. The reality though is that money is the only thing that it will come down to. If Brighton or whoever else were to make a bid then our owners would look at that and if it makes sense then they will sanction the move. If it is a derisory offer then they won’t sell him. There could be added in the fact the lad might want to go and test himself in the top division as that is the dream of all players, but with every move there is a risk as we have seen with Jack Clarke this season. Personally I would much prefer he stays as it’s evident the lad is a massive prospect and looks destined for big things, but if all of the ano e come together and it suits all parties then he will be sold and a replacement brought in. We have Mundle back soon and have had Le Fée play out wide left and can put Wilson in there so the board might think we could do with strengthening elsewhere. I hope he doesn’t but I just have a feeling by the way this is being bandied about that he will unfortunately go.

Just like when Burnley kept bidding for Clarke and lower fees than people wanted.

Because they knew he wanted to go and knew we'd let him go for less than people on here wanted.

I’d happily turn it down if the team I supported were probably in a position to treble my wage soon enough and were quite likely already offering me a massive jump in wage anyway and a clear opportunity for first team football
 
Just need to get price as high as possible if a couple are after him and get it done quick if he wants to go

He’d no doubt get a decent pay rise with a new contract but nowhere near premier league wages. The bit about being able to offer a wage treble the current one soon enough is a possibility not a certainty. As it stands we’re looking good for the playoffs but still 4th favourites in a four horse race for automatic promotion.
