Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Superb performance last night. Hopefully it’s given him the confidence to know he can play at this level now particularly against one of the better teams in the league.

Hopefully repeats that kind of performance at the SOL next week

He does look a bit naive defending but he's a young lad and his strength is running at them. He's got a lot to learn but he's on the right path. Personally I dont think hes looked as comfortable in the first squad as does in the ressies, maybe a little bit of imposter syndrome but for me hes earned his place.
What is imposter syndrome?

The belief that you’re not good enough, or don’t belong

i.e. he doesn’t believe he deserves to be playing for the first team live on tv against the team top of the table

(I’m not saying I agree mind)
He did have the air of a lad who'd been picked from the stands like. Like he couldn't believe his luck.

Really pleased to see him do well last night.

I've been wanting him to get a chance and he really struggled against West Brom - I'm only a few yards away from the left winger in the first half where I sit and you could see the confidence drain from his face as he was easily dispossessed time and again and they waltzed passed him easily going the other way.

I was surprised he kept his place after that and it was great to see him respond so well, probably the best player in the first half.

Sometimes fans just boil my piss. Its been obvious to anyone for ages that Watson has tremendous potential yet on the evidence of one start, his debut, playing on his wrong side people were giving the absolute and categoric point of view that he was either a) not good enough or b) not ready. What goes on in peoples minds? How can such certaintly of opinion be expressed based on such a tiny sample of games. Is it not possible to actually sit back and enjoy the fact that we have yet another youngun deemed good enough to represent our team and actually see how he developes before writing him off? I hope his performance yesterday made some fans reflect on how utterly stupid they are.

Oh sweet Summer child.

Positional sense is not great and too often his delivery hits the first man…also brushed off the ball too easily.
That said, he looks like he’ll be a very good player at this level…I’m just not sure he’s ready yet. Ideally Mundle would be playing and Watson could get a decent loan somewhere but we don’t have that luxury. Maybe this will be the development he needs.
