Told you he could bat

this is encouraging, I'd like to see him in as a batsman, I want to see more local talebt

I always wanted Coughlin in as a batsman when he couldn't bowl

Why not, that is how we run the club, only one way to learn

Why is he down at ten in the first team?

because he's barely played? he was bigged up as an al rounder when he came into the team as i recall but he's a bairn just coming into the side so you bring him in low and get him used to county cricket IMO

What position would you put him?

It is difficult to say where I would put him but batting at 10 restricts his opportunities to develop as a batsman he needs the chance to learn how to develop a long innings if he is to reach his full potential. On that basis I would look to have him in at 8 for now and then see how he develops.

And .
After making 62* & 42* against Yorkshire in the Second XI match at Emerald Headingley & striking an unbeaten 94 for Sacriston in the North East Premier League, Potts has scored an incredible 342 runs without dismissal in the last week

Yes, very encouraging.

maybe the use of the word 'incredible' is a bit ott though.

Agree with a lot of that. I too for the record would have him at 8 - but in fairness he's unlikely at 8 to have much more of an opportunity to bat for long periods. See the debate on where Bairstow should bat for England regarding the vagaries of batting so low.

Perhaps if he does continue to perform well and his technique is good though, why not throw him in at 3 or 4 or something like we did with Borthwick?

Something to consider in the long term definitely. Obviously we'd all love it if he had the same talent with the bat and the same success as a Scott Borthwick.

bit of a difference there as badge ued to bat at the top of the order as a bairn, i've no idea if potts has ever done similar. our top order looks pretty well set am [when was the last time anyone thought that?] so i'm fairly happy for him to start low and work his way up, as weighell has done. if either of them can step into the middle order successfully that would be massive for us

Potts opened the batting throughout the county age groups, also opened for Washington 1sts when he was 15.

nice, this is great to hear. though still for me, right now i would have him low and moving up as he gets more comfortable. the top 7 is set as it is [since richo & poynter just excelled with bat they'v boought a few lives imo] weighell [who i've always rated with bat] is proving himself mroe and more so i think he is set at 8 and rimmington has showed he can hang around a bit with the bat i;d have potts at 10then over th course of the season move him up to 9 and depending on how he gets on and what happens in the middle order maybe further. i think so far weighell is the candidate to move up ahead of him but obviously that will push potts up the order anyhow.

slowly slowly catch monkey imho

Remember Borthwick was getting good scores down the order before he was promoted up. Kinda like he earned his promotion before it was given.

Still, give Potts every change to show what' he's got.

I'd like to see him promoted like, but guess won't happen after Rico's ton

For me its a balance, I understand the need to get experienced pros in the side, but its also a good time to develop the next lot.

The season is still ahead of us. The Champo, One-day and T20, there'll be opportunities and if there aren't it will mean he's injured or the first choice 8 are doing fantastically well. I doubt that last will happen like.

Always knew little Pottsy could bat since he smashed my bowling all round the Riverside nets when he was 11. I'm hoping he goes on to great things so I can dine out on the story when he and his mate wanted to play for Belmont 2nds in 2011, I picked a chubby, overweight 45 year-old with very little talent ahead of him. Raises a laugh whenever I meet up with my old Belmont mates.

Him and me daughter opening the batting at Phili u13s when Weeksy was coaching. Went all season without being out except in one cup game when Rachael was run out.

indeed, i'm all for blooding him higher up in the pyjama stuff, although i don't know if he is a blast it type player or a traditional opener type, any clues from those with anecdotes above?
